View Full Version : Easy 400 Max hand? Fold the river or call?

Sat down a few orbits ago at the 2/4 400 Max game online. Won a few pots and am at ~520, but the opponent only has 300 or so. He has pretty passive stats through 50 hands or so(like .3 agression after the flop), but no reads.

3 limpers to me and I limp with 66. Blinds call and we are off to the races.

Flop is a gorgeous JT6 with the JT of spades. Everyone checks to me, and not wanting to give a free card on a dangerous board, I fire $20(the pot). All fold back around to Villian who calls.

Turn is a 2, and he quickly checks. I felt like he was on a draw, so I fired the full pot again($60), and he calls.

The river is a Q(not spade). He thinks and bets $100 into me. The pot was $180 on the turn and he has around $120 left.

Call or fold? What do you think of the full size pot bets on that board instead of my normal 3/4 or so?

Thanks,
Jason

call or fold is definitely the wrong question

You think he checkcalled with top or second pair all the way and now made 2 pair? Or he is value betting a flushdraw with a Queen? Seemed like either a bluff or a made straight to me. I take it I am wrong?

Folding isn't an option. Raising is at least worth considering.

i'd push here expecting to get called by top two, top and third or 2nd and third

if he has 89 damn

I raise this a lot of times. If he'd limped with bigger set as a passive player might, he pops you on turn. Looks like AQ and missed flush draw that picked up pair. Basic question, does he limp with 89 in EP?

definitely the question is call or raise. . .I raise here. Does he limp with 89, and then is he bad enough to check call pot bets with it? I don't see many ways you can be behind here.

Quite possible.

I think "blocking bet" is the term you're looking for here.

The only possible straights are 8/images/graemlins/spade.gif9/images/graemlins/spade.gif, K/images/graemlins/spade.gif9/images/graemlins/spade.gif and A/images/graemlins/spade.gifK/images/graemlins/spade.gif, given that he's passive, these are all possible, but there are way less combos of these than there are of the two pair hands.

Regardless, though, this statement is just wrong. You'll see two pair/top pair bet this river a lot.

So I guess you're saying I should move in? I havent been in that spot yet(where i had hand enough to move in and someone bet small into me). Perhaps I am being results oriented(I called and he showed AK). What do you do with top two there?

I don't even know if he's in the blinds.

Call or Push is pretty player dependant.

Against an unknown, I push.

This is a push. QJ or KQ may wake up with that river.. Yeah he might have donk called you down with 89 or AK but it's only 120 more.

I think I call just becuase I dont think he would call a push with something that beats you. But I never fold.
