View Full Version : need quick hangover advice

12-07-2005, 10:01 PM
Today's my 21st birthday, I drank too much last night, I have a final in one hour, and I'm going out with my friends to celebrate in like three. I *REALLY* don't want my current hangover to kill my night tonight (I don't really care that much about the final, it's an easy class anyway, it just limits the time I have to recover).

I've been drinking water all day, haven't eaten much (don't have the stomach for it). Would throwing up make me feel better or worse? I'm staring at a pizza, and I want to eat it, and I'm hungry, but any time it goes in my mouth it triggers my gag reflex - should I just give in and throw up, or would that make me feel worse?

dude, drink some gatorade

Supposedly, eating greasy foods helps to curb some of the effects of hangovers. I cannot say so from personal experience, it's just what some of my friends have said.

Pickle juice will get that "making me ill" taste of alcohol out of your mouth, and water or gatorade (etc) will help to rehydrate you. Asprin is also good.

Vitamins, lots of water, force yourself to eat a lot so you can poop out some of the toxins faster.

Agreed. B-complex and those Emergen-C packets work great.

I was gonna say the same thing. Pickles/pickle juice will cure the stomach, and 2 tylenol for the head.

Or you could drink two beers. Same result, and more enjoyable.

This forum gives [censored] advice.

Blarg, I expect better from you. Although you didn't do too bad.

I know you're fond of your burnt toast advice, which I remember from the last post, but I also have heard that burnt food is basically not good for you at all, so I'm less thrilled about it than you are, even if it works. What I said was all right on the money though even if it didn't touch on your favorite.

On the way back from my final (finished first out of 90 people despite the pounding headache I had the entire time, what a joke) I grabbed a gatorade and chugged it when I got home...didn't help too much. We went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner, and I got a burrito and was kinda slowly pecking at it. I started really not feeling well, so I went to the bathroom and puked a few times (and I had only barely started drinking my margarita) - it wasn't a oh-snap-sprint-to-the-bathroom moment or anything, I just felt like I needed to throw up so I did it. I did start feeling a lot better after this, but still was eating my food pretty slowly, and just feeling really weird in general (i.e. kinda felt light-headed, but couldn't tell if I was hungry or not). I decided I felt too [censored] to go out and went home for the night after dinner. So, I'm going out to the bars tomorrow night/tonight (Dec. 8) instead, and we'll pretend that's my birthday. Will bartenders still give me free drinks if I tell them I didn't go out last night cause I was too sick?

In the same situation again, I think I would have puked a long time ago. I did start to feel better after I did that, but I think it was too late for me to recover enough to feel alright.

I don't think you're going to have much luck with the free drink thing. Bartenders aren't known to be terribly sympathetic.

But if it works, let me know. I'll see if the same thing works at 31.
