What is the Nip/Tuck carver?

So, I just recently started watching this show more and more. And I keep hearing about the Carver. I saw the episodes where Kimber was kidnapped by him/her and when he/she forced her to write the letter to Christian. Basically, I just want to know basically how he came up exactly and what he's done so far on the show.

Carver is a serial maimer. He doesn't (usually, one exception) kill his victims, he just cuts their faces.

Sean and Christian have been doing pro-bono work on all the victims. So the carver cut them up as well. He also raped Christian.

The investigator working the case got sexually involved with Christian/Kimber, and then charged Christian with being the carver after the 3-some didn't work out.

Then he dissapeared for a while as the plot changed to Sean leaving the practice and what not. Now he is back.
