A new section of the Titanic was just found and is being made the subject of a new documentary. Here's the perspective on the hullaballoo from the guy who originally discovered the Titanic:
[ QUOTE ]
Explorer Robert Ballard found the bulk of the wreck in 1985, at a depth of 13,000 feet and about 380 miles southeast of Newfoundland. Ballard was not impressed with the expedition's find.
"They found a fragment, big deal," he said. "Am I surprised? No. When you go down there, there's stuff all over the place. It hit an iceberg and it sank. Get over it."
[/ QUOTE ]
I've been wanting to hear someone finally say that.

One of my required hisory courses was a paper writting seminar wiht a topic of the titanic. I read 6 books about the [censored] and had to write a paper on the [censored] ass movie that came out with ol leo in it.
After all that I came to the conclusion. Finally I don't feel alone.
By the way, this is the most annoying part of my college career, hands down.

Ballard thought it was a big deal when HE found a piece.
Somebody else finds a piece? "Big deal, the stuff is everywhere."

He found the ship, not a piece. Big difference.
But his cattiness is defintely a funny part of it. Still, somehow I feel it needed to be said. The Titanic hype around the time of the movie and since got to be a little much. It's not THAT great a movie. Or quite that endlessly fascinating a subject, for me anyway. I have my limits on the damn thing.

Haha, I read that this morning. Could Ballard have possibly come off as more of a cranky, bitter old man?
