I plan to go to canada to play some high stakes Black Jack, what is the best way of converting to their money? I will be converting ~3k USD, and hopefully a lot more than that back to USD.

If the $3K is in the bank, get your bank to waive any daily limit your ATM/Debit card might have and just use an ATM to withdraw the cash while you're there. That'll save you the vig on one end. Then don't use a credit card to pay for your accommodations and meals, just use the Canadian cash. That way you'll have less to convert back to US$ when you return.

When you come back, just re-convert at a bank where you'll the least vig.

thanks for the reply, do banks carry other curreny, would I be able go to my bank and get out canadian currency before I left? also, do they always accept other currencies?

I'm from Canada, and I always go to the bank before a trip to the states in order to minimize fees. If you convert the money at your own bank, this is your best bet. If you don't want to carry 3.5k cash across the border, then you would have to pay the convenience fee at any ATM.

Tkae the cash and convert it at the casino, there rates are usually very reasonable, there not looking to make money off your conversion, just your play /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Also regardign the ATM, you can use most ATM cards anywhere and your money converts to what ever, I'm fromt eh US and go to canda all the time and when I break sometimes I have to hit the ATM , i can use it woth out issue and it reflects your "US" daily limit. However the surge charge on some can be deadly

If you decide to use the ATM, make sure your bank doesn't charge an excessive fee. A few years ago when I went to Eurpoe (first time I delt with changing money), I used the ATMs because I had heard that they were resaonable. It turned out that my bank charged $5 per international withdrawel. It was right there in my bank account info that I had got when I opened the account. I just never thought to check.
