View Full Version : Hand Analysis: A9o against the big stack with TPTK (PP $10)

This situation has a lot of factors to consider. One is that the big stack is a total donk but lucky. Don't worry, this isn't a bad beat post. I hadn't really lost anything him, but I think he put out all of the players who were gone to this point (saw him pick up AA followed by JJ). He had paid me off with gutshot straight draws before, had criticized me for playing T2o in the BB when he minraised from the SB with J8o. I mean, this guy was bad. Also, I had been picking up blinds pretty easily and bluffing off a few pots. I had decided not to tangle with the big stack. I didn't want to play too tight on the bubble, but things were really going my way, so no reason to risk it all when second seemed almost sure and first a definate possibility. Anyway, here is the hand. Comments on pre-flop and turn would be appreciated. I think that my flop play is pretty standard, but please let me know if you disagree.

Thanks,
Will

Well I think this is a pretty easy fold preflop. Gap concept, you're out of position, button is big stack, etc.

Now that we hit the flop, I love you leading 2/3rds of the pot at him. Very nice. Unfortunately you end up heads up with the big stack.

I'd bet 400 on the turn and fold to his raise for sure. Betting 600 leaves you hanging in the wind just a little too much.

Thanks for the advice. I do wonder about folding A9 pre-flop to a minraise from a donk (albeit the massive chipleader). I actually considered re-raising to 300-400, but I never thought about folding. It's not phenomenal, of course, but A9 seems like a pretty decent hand with only 4 players.

Yeah but the BB is on <10bb and now 9bb because he's in the blind, so why mess?
