View Full Version : playing pocket pairs, one overcard on flop

somewhat common situation, happened again tonight. no reads on table, i have TT 5 handed, utg bets, i raise, CO folds, SB reraises, BB folds, utg calls, i call. flop J96 with two diamonds. SB leads, utg folds.

how do i play from now on? calling down seems spewing, but he may also just have overcards in which case i'm ahead.

Why? AK/AQ make up a significant percent of his hands. I'd fold a turn A/K/Q or a river A.

Is one of your T's a /images/graemlins/diamond.gif. I call flop. See what hits on turn and consider raising it.

does my play change if his preflop action had?

i also get the impression at this level people bet out it means a made hand pretty frequently.

Sometimes. You'd have to give an example. Preflop action is just one factor. You should also consider: reads when you get them, your relative position, what the overcard is (an A is different then a J), bd draws, your image (does he think your 3 betting light), ect.

It's been almost a year since I've played there. So I can't comment on whether a .5/1 unknown is leading AK/AQ here. If you're conviced he's only leading things that beat you, then fold the flop, but if you do that as you move up you'll get run over.

yeah, i know what you mean. just at this level a lot of players are pretty transparent. in the example i did call down actually and was shown JJ
