View Full Version : Whoa, Snow

This is a random-it's-four-forty-one-in-the-morning post. I just wanted to say it's snowing in NYC and I had no idea it was supposed to do. First snow and I'M excited.

On a somewhat more important note to me, we hang dry our laundry (a backyard in Brooklyn? Hell, yes) and now there is snow all over the laundry and clothes lines. Is the proper move to leave the laundry out there, or to dust off the snow and bring it in?

Bring in your laundry, dope. It's not going to dry with snow all over it.

I understand that, but I'm more worried having wet laundry all over my chairs and other furniture. It's not just a couple of t-shirts, it's two 20 foot lines of laundry. Basically, it's either outside in the cold or inside in a laundry basket.

I guess the laundry basket is still better, huh?

leaving a pile of wet clothes in a laundry hamper is bad news, hang it up to dry on top of your shower curtain rod/lay it out in bathtubs.

I put up all of the outdoor christmas lights up today, and I decided to wait until tomorrow to waterproff all the electrical connections. Don't anyone step on my front stoop unless you want a nice shock.

Fiiiiiiiiine.

Meanwhile, I've got one line of clothes in the basket, and now I'm in the warmth again to try recovering sensation in my fingers.

Seriously? I live like an hour away from NYC and first snow was in late october, and it's snowed several times since then.

Ok, fine. It's probably just my first snow. I was in Europe from late September to mid november and it hasn't snowed here since I've been around.

this is my first winter in NYC, so I was pretty excited about the snow. dumb question: is it helpful/necessary to carry an umbrella when it snows?

everyone knows that first snow is the first time you wake up and see snow on the ground and cars.

Clothes will eventually dry outside in subzero weather. I have no idea how. I'm sure it's faster here in Colorado than it is in the humid NE.

I'm at -17C this morning...it's not that bad. It's just ramping you up for the -35C days...with wind.

Nothing out of ordinary.

And I like the umbrella in the snow idea, it would just be funny.

No way, I love snow in NYC. Snow back at Amherst, Mass sucks since they refuse to use salt or sand. Instead they put down soy, so it smells and all it does is turn it into maroon-ish mush. It sucks.

All,

Anyone who says they like snow has obviously never had the miafortune to have to shovel out two cars burried by the snowplow as well as as shoveling off a 1800's slate sidewalk.

I hate snow.

Colorado has mostly switched from sand and salt to magnesium chloride. It does a great job of keeping the roads clear, but it gunks up your car and its windows really bad. You need to keep 5 gallons of washer fluid on hand when it snows (I'm exagerating, but only a little).

We got over a foot this weekend.

The snow started on thursday, haven't moved my car since /images/graemlins/smile.gif. The dog loves the snow, and will bury herself in it as soon as she runs outside. house (http://http://photobucket.com/albums/a234/ordnaryjam/?action=view&current=000_0116.jpg) car (http://photobucket.com/albums/a234/ordnaryjam/?action=view&current=000_0115.jpg) dog (http://photobucket.com/albums/a234/ordnaryjam/?action=view&current=000_0117.jpg)

Great pictures. Your dog seems to really enjoy it. We are supposed to get more snow tonight, only a couple inches though. Right now the wind is blowing at about 65 miles per hour and the lowest temperature this week will be a nice 9 degree.
