james bamford, body of secrets.

praised by wall street journal and washington post book world, this is an

"authoritative and engaging book" -- WSJ

heard about it on the radio, bought it when i saw it at barnes and nobles. only like 12 bucks, its a must have for about ten pages. (its a 700 page book).

the author (who was given access to archived material) uncovered 'operation northwoods', which in a nutshell was having the US government blow up buildings and kill americans to blame on terrorists in order to start a war. im not joking. ok, well, the exact words were to blame cuba and start a war.

heres an excerpt. p. 90.

-------------------------------------

But Operation Northwoods also had the support of every single member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and even senior Pentagon official Paul Nitze argued in favor of provoking a phony war with Cuba. The fact that the most senior members of all the services and the Pentagon could be so out of touch with reality and the meaning of democracy would be hidden for four decades.

In retrospect, the documents offer new insight into the thinking of the military's star studded leadership. Although they never succeeded in launching America into a phony war with Cuba, they may have done so with Vietnam.

talking about gulf of tonkin, of course.

the book only costs 12 dollars, im sure you can make a few sucker bets, whip out the book, and recoup that in one day flat /images/smile.gif
