I have an older 2001 Dell XPS 450. I tried to download Microsoft office on it and slightly surpassed the memory of 128. Then computer shut down. Now when I try to restart I get a black screen with this message:

Intel Pentium III processor 450 MHz
128MB System RAM Passed

So, is there a way for me to delete something that I downloaded and get back into the cpu? I think that its probably overloading the CPU during the attempt to start up.

Please leave me ur pokerstars id so I can transfer.

Thank you,

Indy

I'm assuming you mean you have 128 Megs of ram. Installing office will have nothing to do with your ram.

Something else is wrong with your computer. PS name is Bramor. $10 plz.

Ok. But Why would it say memory surpassed? Should I reformat the harddrive? If so how do I do this?

My guess would be that the 128 megs of memory passed the self test.

Does it even attempt to boot? Can you boot into safe mode? Can you boot from a floppy or CD? If so, can you access your c: drive?

If you want to format it, boot off your Windows CD (You do have one, right?), and install. There will be an option there to format.

When I put in the CD or disk and start the cpu i get the same memory surpassed message and no options to continue.

Check your BIOS options for a boot drive order. Usually it'll default to trying to boot off the hard drive first. Change that to cd and try again.

Bios options? What exactly are you saying?

When you boot, does it say something like "Press Del to configure" or something? If not, check your manual if you have one.

You're drawing slim for a solution.

Yes! It says hit delete to enter SETUP. I hit delete, it says entering setup but then just sits there forever.

The river came, and your draw missed. Time to fold.

It sounds like a motherboard, CPU or memory failure. This is a hardware problem, not a software one. You should just trash this PC if it's not under warranty (and I assume it's not based on the age). It's not worth the time or money to fix a PC worth a couple hundred bucks.
