Which players do you guys tend to avoid at the $50+5 level on Party?

It is stupid to "avoid" players. A better thing to do would be to figure out how to adapt to different styles (some of them very good in a vacuum) in different positions relative to you.

12-01-2005, 05:55 AM
I disagree that it's stupid to avoid players. Obviously, one would rather play a total donk than Phil Ivey.

Slim Pickens
12-01-2005, 06:04 AM
The concentration of "good" players isn't high enough to make the effort of avoiding players worth it at the 55's. Anyone who's any good is either

a) playing a higher limit or
b) 3249637892q113243278786-tabling and playing predictably.

12-01-2005, 06:05 AM
So who do you think are the best $50+5 players, Slim?

tigerite
12-01-2005, 06:05 AM
I don't even avoid people at the $109s. Seat selection is more important than table selection IMHO.

Depends on the player.

How about:
A) VPiP 11%, PFR 6%
B) VPIP 28%, PFR 16%
C) VPIP 55%, PFR 3%

tigerite
12-01-2005, 06:18 AM
Well it's hard to say. I mean some 11%/6%'s are very passive and fold their blinds to you - others understand ICM and all that and push a lot.. 28%/16% generally try to be somewhere on their right, but not right next to them.. 55%/3% somewhere to their left, but it depends on if they are lovers of the "reverse gap concept" and limp then call a push from their sb with A4o, etc

There are no hard and fast answers.. also you won't see many 55%/3% more than once, they tend to disappear..

[/ QUOTE ]

Other than me of course... /images/graemlins/tongue.gif Anyone who is a regular and doesn't obviously suck (and they're easy to spot even after as few as 100 tournaments) can be considered a "good" player. Eh, they're all just players. They do stuff. You do stuff back. The stuff you do depends on the stuff they do, and so on.

I won't purposely sit to the left of anyone I think understands proper bubble play. Other than that, any seat will do.

1) I don't think that's what I said, and I promise you that's not what I meant.
2) People get so wrapped up in trying to control every aspect of a game where 98% of the short-term success and 80% of the "long-term" success is the result of random chance. Most of the rest of that 20% you can control doesn't have a thing to do with table selection, so your effort is better spent elsewhere.

Yeah, so... back to the point of this thread...

Who do you think are top $50+5 players on Party?

PartySNGer
12-01-2005, 07:20 AM
It's hard to say. I run into the guys who are at the top of the leaderboard a lot, but they don't even seem that good.

Some who I would say are solid are XxTabiasxX, ShipItHolla, and ThaCaumFlipa.

But as was said in this thread, I don't really fear the massive multitablers. I just know if they show strength early in the tourney to run and sometimes try to be more aggro against them on the bubble b/c they prob have tighter calling ranges and can't follow along as easily.

applejuicekid
12-01-2005, 07:24 AM
I don't understand the point of this thread. If you played any amount of $55's you will find out very quickly who the best players are. Like someone said earlier if you played 100 you would have a decent list.

tigerite
12-01-2005, 07:28 AM
XxTabiasXx is a 2p2'er - and one who has played the $215s before, so that's no surprise; ShipItHolla can often be found in the $109s as well, and yeah, he's decent.

12-01-2005, 09:03 AM
its really hard to stay away from tables when its late at nite or early in the mourning....i play with so many multi-tablers....XxTabiasXx, rsu_27, black_jak111....those are some of the names that pop up in my mind....but for the most part there are still players with many leaks...

I know what you mean, but I would hella hella rather play Phil Ivey than some donk.

As for the debate, if you are a pro and you feel your game is really solid I can see avoiding good players. If you are working on your game, I would go with what Slim said and work on adjusting to them.

I just wanted to let everyone know that i have changed my mind about playing 150 $55s a day all month. Pwning the leaderboard, which I am 100% sure I could do, would be nice, but I would rather play $215s whenever I feel like it and relearn to pwn good, or at least better, people. Also, I want poker to be enjoyable and when 10 tabling $55s, it isnt at all. In fact, it sucks. So, I am going to be 8 tabling $215s whenever I feel like it and I will see where I go from there.

Also, shipitholla is the nuts!!!

you probably have a hole in yer game. its that you dont call enough from the bb. if the blinds are big enough, and yer shoving like 5-6x, im calling with alll sorts of pairs and almost any ace, especially if i know its a 2+2er and his range is huge. i doubt hes making much of an error, he plays solid. holla
