Exposed hand question

This was from a ring game at Lucky Chances recently.

Some people put money in the pot and we see a flop.
I bet, LP calls everyone else folds. Turn comes down, I check, he bets.
I look at his stack and make a big checkraise bet by putting two big stacks of chips in but saying nothing. He thinks and calls. River comes.

I thought I had put him all-in (I am in 10 seat and he is in 1 seat so its hard to see each other). So expose my cards. Dealer says “no, wait action is left”, but its too late, the table has seen them.

What would should the floor rule if he complained and wanted my hand called dead?

If it matters, I had 99 on a 94452 board, the pot was ~$500 and he had $40 left. So it was extremely clear I was not folding.

Hand's dead. Make sure you really did put him all in next time.

Even if the floor (screws up and) rules it live, you're sure as hell not going to get the rest of his chips, or any more action... unless he has quads. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Cash game right? Heads up right? You can expose one or both cards at any time, it is live unless you verbally declair "fold" or toss them in the muck.

Tournament, nope, hand is dead.

They are your cards and it is heads up if you want to show them that is your business. There is no reason to rule this hand dead and I don't know of any room in the world that would rule this hand dead (that doesn't mean there aren't, there are a lot of places that spread poker that aren't familiar with rules and procedures).

follow up question. Let's say i checked the river, he bet, I have a tough decision and think awhile (don't have 99 now). Can I show him my cards and get a reaction ala DoyleB, or is that just for books and the old days. Assume this is cash game, heads up in real casino ie. Bike, Vegas, etc.

You can turn up your cards heads up (live game only).

As long as you are HU, you can flip one or both pre-flop if you want to. Doesn't matter when or if the action is on you or not, literally anytime you are HU.

But be forwarned... It is not as big a +EV thing as some seem to think it is. When the guy looks "shocked" at seeing your hand, what does it mean when he looks "shocked". Is he shocked that you called with that "crap", is he shocked that he is drawing dead, is he just shocked you turned over your cards?

Your hand really has to be 180° from his read and be 180° of you image to get a useful reaction. And most good and/or experienced players are only likely to flash their true reaction for a micro-second and if you can not read it, well you just gave him a ton of information.

It can also be used against you and VERY effectively too. Here is an example... You have KK on the button and a guy MP limps (he covers you) and you raise to 5xBB and you and the limper in MP go HU to the flop. Flop comes K99 rainbow, he checks, you make a PSB and he calls. Turn comes a 3, he checks, you make a PSB and he calls. River is a 6 and he checks and you make a PSB and he RR 3xPot and now you flip over the KK to get a read and decide to raise, he instantly goes AI. Do you call knowing you have shown him the 2nd nuts?

I have only been able to use it for a solid read once and many years.

This is not totally true,as the rule as not universal , I know plenty of casinos that if you expose you hand its rules as dead, heads up, multiway etc etc. However if it was an accident , or evn on purpsoe most floor people will give a warning. Every rule in a casino is subject to the floor. This one especially.
