2) Work on my hand reading.
3) Push more with huge draws

I'll be in AC for 2-3 nights and Vegas for 12 nights. Goal is 5g.

Which, with drinking expenses, should net me like three hundred bucks =)

Play 20k hands at 100NL 6max at 6PTBB/100, or play as close as possible to optimally over that period if I have a garbage run of cards. Then move to 1/2.

-Get more hands in on UB to finally work on the $800 Dollars worth of bonus money I have there.

-Not look at Poker Tracker while playing to avoid knowing if/how much I am up or down for the session (if I can do this all month that would be quite a feat and very good for me)

I suck way more than the rest of ya'll. I just moved from $25 full ring games to $50 6-max, and have only been actually paying attention and thinking much during hands for the last 2-3k hands. That should give you some context.

I'm playing either 1 6-max table, 2 6-max tables or 1 6-max and 1 full table.

1) Focus intently on one table. If I play two tables, play tighter (set-mine?) the other. This can change when my skill allows, but not yet.
2) Vocalize my reads. Do this for every hand I'm in on the main table and as many other hands as possible. For hands I'm not in/hands on the non-main table, do this for any pots over $50.
3) Estimate my equity against villain's ranges for all all-in hands.
4) Once a week, review all all-in hands, estimating equity and checking those estimates with PokerStove.
5) Post an average of at least one hand per week.
6) Start datamining a lot. Come up with empirical estimates of hand ranges. Write some obvious code already.
7) Move up when I have the roll/skill.

zaphod
12-01-2005, 05:20 PM
1) Pay attention.

2) Improve my game.

3) Stop playing when i am tired. At least stop playing NL 6 max, if i "have to" play go for a few SNG's which could be done more easily on autopilot.

4) Take breaks. I often find myself playing way to long without breaks.

5) Get more serious about tableselection.

Your sample size is probably at least an order of magnitude too small, but I value your input as a higher-limit player. Since I switched from NL $25 full ring games to NL $50 6-max, I've run at 32 PTBB/100 for over 1200 hands. This has done wonders for my bankroll, which is now well over $1200. In your opinion, should I take the conservative option and play $600 6-max, or should I jump right into the $2000 games?

That's a good one I'm working on. I get in the mood to gambool and splash around too much.

Also, I want to take a shot at 5/10 in Vegas if I reach my goal. I pussied out this summer at turning stone at the end of my week-long trip when I saw Al Krux and some other nasty good players in their weekly 5/10 game. Even though I wanted to play the 5/10 there, skipping that game was definitely +EV.

Seriously, that's really nice...I hope I can do 1/4 of that working my way up.

(Obviously) we're both screwing around, but switching over is something I'm really looking forward to. I've been playing ed miller's short stack strategy over the last month in the NL200 (full) games to get my feet with no-limit and pretty much love everything about the game at this point.

Now that I'm playing "for real" I've dropped down to NL25 to start over and learn the game the right way. A more detailed december goal would be to work my way up to at least NL50, and hopefully NL100, by new years. BR isn't a factor for me (I probably have enough for NL200, although not the skills at the moment...that's my focus for december, improving my understanding of no-limit strategy).

Good luck,
J

move up a little in limits (I currently play 1/2-2/4 but I'm looking toward a 2/4-3/6 [NL] or so now) and figure out if I can actually do this for a living (looked like I could but those taxes make it somewhat iffy for me right now). I also need more experience against the better players that play those limits (they're also mostly the same ones at limits higher up even)

Goal is to make the most correct decisions I can. (will only be playing half of the month or so)

You are shooting for a 10k month without being comfortable at NL 100 yet? That's awesome if you get it. Just from some rough estimates, assuming you 4 table for 3 hours everyday at 80 hands an hour, you would need a winrate of around 17 PTBB/100 to get there I think.

Take advantage of a few weeks off school and play 5-10k hands of NL $50, crush it, and move up to NL $100. Start 2006 taking a serious approach to my game, on the one year anniversary (Jan. 2005) of when I first sat down at $0.50/$1 limit at Party playing 75% of hands and getting excited when I won a $10 pot.
