Like Playboy TV-esque porn, the ones where penetration is not explicitly shown. I think probably, because it seems like it would be easier to film regular sex in a way that obscures penetration than elaborately fake two naked grunting bodies only inches away from each other. As long as they're in the porn industry anyway, it seems odd they would stop short of actual sex. But maybe I'm mistaken.

I'm sure Dom will jump in w/ the facts here, but my understanding was that many of those movies are just regular pornos shot/edited to not show penetration. (ie: there's the porno version of the movie and the Showtime version) holla!

There's a movie out there called "Key To Sex" that I've seen once or twice on Skinemax. There's a lesbo scene that's clearly not simulated and at least one other regular sex scene that looks legit.

Correct.
Some obv have just simulated sex. This becomes pretty clear upon watching. Howeve,r I think more just have the penetration edited out. I've gathered this just from watching and a few old interviews and blogs from porn stars.
The biggest issue I take with soft core porn is that the women seem to be universally less attractive and more likely to have fake breasts. It ends up being awfully lame.

When porn is shot, there are often two angles - one for the hardcore film and one for the softcore film. This way two movies can be made without shooting two different films. In this case, there are then two different endings filmed - one where both actors simulate orgasms and one where the guy pulls it out and splatters his manhood all over the girls face.

okay, i've filmed both - hardcore and softcore. There are two possibilities here:
In most softcore, they are not having sex. It's a lot of bumping and grinding and faking.
However, sometimes a company will film a hardcore and softcore version of the same scene at the same time for different markets - I did this almost always while working for Vivid.
The way it works is, you're filming a certain angle of hardcore and have gotten what you needed - you then tell the performers we're shooting the angle "soft" now, and they cover up any explicitness from the camera. Sometimes they're faking it, sometimes they're just continuing fuking or blowing but with bodies/hair/etc. blocking the hard action. It really depends on what's easier for the performer.
You really don't want your guy to have to get hard, then soft, then hard again and so on.
Anyway, hope that answers your question.

This is something I've always wondered about: In softcore (where there are no hardcore scenes being filmed at the same time), how often do the male actors get aroused? With all the bumping and grinding, I imagine that occasionally it would be hard for the actor to stay "professional".
