View Full Version : Blind Steal w/ QJo, BB pushes, do I call? $11 Stars

Some bad SNG's so far today. SB didn't strike me as ultra loose or tight, but I am confident about running over these guys. Hero built stack stealing, seeing how I couldn't hit any hands.

My odds are 1.6 to 1. I figured that before the call. I was thinking AK & low pairs, that he could be pushing, allow me to call this. I don't know much else.

Final Pot: t4450

This is quite a bad spot to steal with a raise, I would just fold. As for the call, it depends, you need a read. By now, you should have one, considering you've played at least 40 hands with him in at least some of them

I don't like raising to 450 here, because I will feel like I want to call a short stack push and even if they both fold UTG will come over the top.

I have been known to limp here, and minraise. People know how to respond to likely blind steals, they don't know how to respond to limps.

Fold. You barely have 1.6:1 odds and this will cost you half your stack on the bubble.

Blinds are only 75/150. Against a weak table(and weak big stack) your raise will succeed often enough to make it +EV, but when you get caught you half to let it go. Absolutely no reason to dump half your stack with Queen high.

Very bad call.

Thanks for the responses, maybe I won't keep getting 4th place if I figure this stuff out. I don't understand how this can be a bad blind steal raise (if I'm capable of folding).

Also if I put my opponents on a range of any pair, AKo-A8o, AKs-A5s, KQs-KTs, QJs, QTs, JTs, KQo, KJo, then I have a 1.6:1 chance to win.
Is this a reasonable hand range?
If I had KJo instead, should I have called?

this is a marginal play and it all depends on what range of hands he has. if he has the hands you say then i think a fold is in order. but if i felt he was just playing back a reasonable percentage of the time with weaker hands then maybe it is a call. the problem here is that the odds are not that juicy and he isnt desperate and has enough of a stack to make a dent in your chips. sounds like you made a hasty decision, of the type that i just posted about in teh "why arent you better" post about myself.

Easy fold. You've got serious chips and if you built your stack stealing then he probably was just waiting for you to stub your toe. If you fold here you're still right near the lead and chips. You can find a way better spot.
