View Full Version : Splitting the PL/NL Forums

A number of posters (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=4027697&an=0&page=0#Post 4027697) want to split the PL/NL forums into three forums.

Small Stakes: .5/1 and below
Mid Stakes: 1/2 to 3/6
High Stakes: 5/10 and up

Mid/high seems to be fine as is, but small stakes NL is terribly overcrowded with 50-60 new threads a day at times. Makes it very hard to manage for all by those with OCD.

Thoughts? AZK? Xorbie? I don't moderate these forums but I post in them and read them and thought someone should raise the issue here.

I think the way they are now is fine, I don't think there is as much traffic in the NL forums as there was in the limit forums which is why a split made sense for those forums... but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise...

SSNL as like 3-4x as much traffic as MHNL, if not more. It really is getting to the point where it's too much, 4 or so pages a day, and half the threads end up with 2-3 replies.

The way the split is proposed doesn't really change MHNL at all anyway, except in title (unless we decide to move 5/10 down to mid, which I dunno about).

yeah the main reason I brought it up is selfish of course. I play low mid-limit NL and I find SSNL totally unmanageable because of how many new threads started each day. Plus, I think it'd be good for teh 50 and 25nl guys to have their own forum where they'd feel more comfortable learning from one another like people do in the micro-limit forum.

so how about small NL 1/2 NL and lower, mid NL 2/4 - 5/10 (easy decisions/small stacks/etc, high NL 5/10 live, 5/10+ big stacks online, etc...

Do you feel like modding mid stakes? or maybe we could both do it.

I still think 1/2 plays more like 2/4. I think I'll end up taking care of mid and someone else can take small stakes. Of course you can help mod mid, it's not much work at all unless I decide to keep running a digest of sorts.

What about:

Micro .5/1 and below
Small 1/2 up to 4/8
Mid/High 5/10+

???

Sure. I'll do it this weekend unless someone objects.

Once the decisions are made, I need someone to make a new thread with the precise splits, the new moderators of the new forums, and where the old posts will stay/go when the split occurs.

I think we can just leave all the old SSNL posts in small, and all the old MHNL in high and then just start mid anew. I think all that remains is to find a mod for small stakes, as we already have (I think) a consensus on up to 1/2 being small, 1/2 - 5/10 being mid and 5/10+ being high.

I vote for Maulik.

Well I know 4_2_it and Grunch are both interested and both are, IMO, more mature posters. They offered to split the mod duties as both have regular jobs.

I'll endorse Grunch with utmost enthusiasm. He was a spectacularly knowledgable and mature poster in micro before he converted to the dark side.

That sounds like a good team. i've been sporadic in my reading of the forum. You'd probably know best who would be level-headed and all that.

Bump this thread. I need to be mod of mid NL, and I guess for now just keep me at small too while I work out who's going to be mod.

I don't like Maulik (at least not as a mod), I can go into detail if anyone needs me to.

I actually had him confused with Malachii. You could offer comment if you wish but it looks like Xorbie is going democratic and posting a poll.

so what was the decision here, is 5/10 high or mid?

5/10 live, simple or short stack will be mid, 5/10 deep stacked, short handed, trixy and so forth will be high.

Same deal for 1/2.

That looks like a good line-up. Is big jim still going to co-moderate mid?

I'll highly endorse Grunch (again) and Isura (new) as both great former Micro posters. I don't know PoBoy well, but I support your decision. My one question is, what happend to 4_2_it?

He doesn't have much time, and plus he's moving up to 200NL anyway.

Go for it indeed. Do I PM Mat? Do they?

MrWookie47

They have to PM Mat. You may want to, but I think he has seen this thread. Have them drop your name, and have them tell Mat to talk to you if there's a problem.

Hi, all -

Thanks to everyone who endorsed me highly to be a mod of SSNL.

I do indeed have a lot invested in 2+2, and I look forward to being able to give something back to the site. In my first day as mod, I've discovered that xorbie toiled in silent selflessness for some time. You've done a great job, and I commend you.

My co-mods haven't joined me yet, but I feel confident that we'll make a good team.

I've already taken my first mod action by locking this thread (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=4131457&an=0&page=0#Post 4131457), which I'm not 100% comfortable doing. But the forum called for it.

Anyway, thanks again, and I'll see you on the forum.

Isura told me he PMed Mat, but hasn't heard yet back. I'm pretty sure PoBoy has PMed him by now as well, cuz he responded to the PM I sent him yesterday.
