Just looking around eBay, and I am seeing people who will bid on an item, and a few minutes later, they will outbid themselves Link (http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=7369421790)

I've seen this a lot, and I never understood it. Any insight would be appreciated.

Nice Pics.

When you bid on ebay, you enter a "maximum bid" amount. Only the minimum amount needed to gain the lead in the bid is posted as your bid, however.

If anyone comes along and enters a maximum bid higher than your current, posted bid amount, but less than your maximum bid amount, your new current posted bid is raised to again be the least amount needed to keep yoou in the lead. This can happen several times before someone finally outbids you with a higher maximum.

I hope that made sense.

Person A bids max of Z, and is currently winning with W
Person B bids max of X where (W <= X <= Z), since Person A had the higher max bid, Person A's official bid is moved up to Y (X <= Y <= Z).

However, all you see on the site is:
Person A bid W
Person A bid Y

Okay, thanks. I knew about the auto bid thing they have, I didn't realize that's what this was.

I'm thinking hip hop, but I'm going to pick up a few records from other genres and just kind of experiment to see if there's anything I really like.
