You say he's a maniac, I assume that's based on watching him overplay/bluff some recent hands, not just on stats. So in this hand I'm putting him on a range that includes a big chunk of overplay/bluffs.

His river bet, after just calling the turn, is pretty suspicious (even from a reasonable player this could be something like the stupid end of the straight) and I continue to put him on an overplay/bluff enough of the time to warrant another raise.

At this point, if he 3-bets me, folding would be a huge mistake because of the size of the pot and the nature of the opponent. Even if his overplay/bluff % shrinks down to a fraction of its former size you have to call. Depending on how maniacal he is you sometimes should cap, it's hard to tell because you don't really say what kind of maniac he is.

With a strong hand against a maniac you have to maximize your profit, not save bets.

If he's not really a maniac, just overly aggro, and you haven't seen him get crazy post-flop, then the river call is fine.
