I've saw this done before in an article may as well do it here too.

You have 5 minutes at the most to give advice to a person who has never played poker before in their life before going to a game.

Then the same 5 minutes but going into a tournment. In which you don't know the structure or if it had rebuys.

My only advice was don't call preflop with any cards that are lower than Tens, be careful when raised, bet top pair, don't chase 1 card needed straights (gut shots). In a 2 hour rebuy tournment against tough tables 2 of my friends lasted 4 hours without any rebuys.

I lasted 2 hours after 4 rebuys, haha, after getting outdrawn a lot.

But anyhow, what would your quick advice for a ring game and quick advice for a tournment?

For a ring game, I would tell them "fuggedaboutit" until you learn something about the game. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

For a tourney, the only reason for them to be playing with zero experience would be if it is a charity event. I would tell them "fold everything except AA, KK, QQ, AK, AQs. With those hands, go all-in. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif
