Home game the other night. I have pocket Jacks and raise, of course. Me and two other players. Flop comes QJx. I bet out, a player folds, raised back at me, we quickly cap. Turn 3, offsuit. It's recapped between the two of us. River Q. I get nervous and check-and call.
My opponent turns over Q3 to the runner-runner boat to beat me.
Of course I was furious. What kind of idiot caps it with a pair of queens, then chases the low two pair?
But this story has a happy ending. True to form, this guy was calling with garbage all night. Whenever I got a hand he paid me off in full, and he left the table with an empty wallet and I checked out with a 5 fold return on my stake.
The moral of this story is, I think, to keep a calm head even when you get ridiculously sucked out on. Had I gone on tilt, I wouldn't have been around to win my money back plus interest.
