View Full Version : ($20) Slow played this set of deuces.

11-23-2005, 01:08 AM
This seemed like a good spot to slow play this. Reason: I'm not going to get any action with this flop anyway unless somebody is going to bluff at it. True? I'm hoping to see some bigger cards come.

Of course, look what happens...I continued my wonderful little trap with the turn. Would you raise the river? And expect to see Ax or Kx call? I just called figuring I'd be beat if called or re-raised. I was just done with this beautifully well-executed play.

Of course, no reads this early.

Pretty bad. With a monster hand like this, you wanna build the pot. Don't even bother calling preflop if you're gonna play it like this.

I suppose you could do something like miniraise the river, but I don't see you making much more from this hand and a reraise would just suck. I think you're better of calling.

i dont like the flop check. the turn check is worse than folding aces preflop

no it's not. You can always get someone to bluff on the river.

Yes it is, they will bluff for 40 chips, congrats, you must have won the sng after winning this huge pot.

I think it is pretty easy to know if your beat here so trying to squeeze a few extra chips isn't the worst thing in the world.

How do you build this pot? Min betting?

Sets are like gold. There is no point in trying to extract value from jack high hands, you aren't getting much no matter what you do. The idea is to win as much as possible from hands that have showdown value, or draws. You can't do that by waiting until the river in a 60 chip pot.

So would you slow play the flop and bet the turn or just bet the flop?

i bet the flop here, throw in a small bet, plenty of overcards will come along. definetly bet the turn.

11-23-2005, 01:41 AM
Bet the flop because there are 4 people in the hand and someone will come along with garbage for "cheap". Plenty of people limp PP and Ax pre-flop and will have an overpair/top pair/middle pair they like (not to mention overcards).

Bet the turn because no one's buying you're on trip 4s, and if you're lucky enough to have hit someone with something like A4 you'll get all kinds of action. Plus, you've got the bottom boat on a paired board and you don't want anyone getting to their two-outer for free.

Call the river because the doofus with 76 and the idiot slow-playing his trip 4s on the turn both just drew out on you, and it's gonna suck to get bluff-raised off the best hand if no one has a better boat.

Never mind. I'm an idiot, for some reason I thought he was up against one other player. Sorry for wasting your time.

11-23-2005, 01:47 AM
Are you expecting people to call my bets with AT and KJ, thinking I'm on a bluff? Any pair would have bet, any 7 would have bet. I'm not getting squat from this hand.

Do I min bet hoping someone sees it as weak and tries to bluff-raise me? I think a ridiculous over-bet might extract more value.
