Havn't seen this talked about. I guess this was a 25k buyin over the pond. Lots of big names played it. The final table is going to include the final 6 players, plus a wildcard winner from a second tournament that is going on today. The wildcard winner will start with a stack of 10xBB which is about 1/2 the size of the small stack. Phil Ivey has about 2.4 million in chips. Kenna James is the low stack with 310k. The wildcard winner will start with 160k.

What's sick is phil managed to more than DOUBLE his stack [1.06m>2.4m] playing down from 12 to 6.

Will he blow it again like last year?

I don't understand the wildcard thing.

The first half or so of the field that busted out play a freeroll freezeout and the winner gets a seat at the final table and is accordingly guaranteed more more money than dozens of players that beat him/her?

Not only does this seem unfair, it kind of messes with the early part of the tournament. If my understanding of the second chance thing is correct, it seems to me there is a point where if you are short stacked early in the tournament, the +EV move is to gamble it up to either get a big stack or ensure yourself a seat in the losers' freeroll.

Thanks. I also saw www.pokerwire.com (http://www.pokerwire.com) is doing day 3 live updates, so check it out if interested.

You get 10bb and can finish no lower than 7th, but everyone who busts before the final 6 are established are entered. It recirculates about 1k of the prizepool per player, roughly 4% of the entire prizepool, as a buyin was $25k.

The reason? To create 2 more episodes of hot poker action for tv.

The only people that were shafted were the ones who had yet to bust from the final table before the Consolation Tourney started. Tony G lasted about a half an hour after the CT started before he busted 7th.

Dumb format, tho.

No, apparently even those busting out on the bubble got a chance to enter the CT: http://www.montecarlomillions.com/blog05d3a.php. Of course, Tony G busted out on the first hand. Ouch!

There's an Irish poker info site that is currently following the consolation tournament. As far as I know they are the only info site with updates on the consolation tournament. Mainly they are focussing on Irish poker pros Andy Black and Peter Roche but there is also coverage of the other big UK and American names; Dave Colclough, Devilfish, Antonio Esfandiari and Mike the Mouth.

im now very confused for this whole tourney

so there are 6 players left that will play tommorow and one person will be added tommorow?

why would they want to play 7-handed, such a weird number

Yeah basically the final table is the 6 remaining players of this tourney plus the winner of the "wildcard" tourney.

Kinda strange.

And pokerwire.com is doing updates for the "wildcard" tourney. Last I saw it was down to 12 or 13 players.

The FTP Invitational on T-day will also be 7 handed, so maybe it's an FSN thing.

To paraphrase Crocodile Dundee, that's not a smile. THIS is a smile:

Is this the same tournament that is airing tonight on FSN? Or is that a rerun of last year's?

just for an update, i would like to say that phil ivey is the sickest human being on the planet. they are now down to the final 3:

"He moved in with K9 and Phil Ivey'sA 10 took him out, even after the King popped out on the flop, he turned the 10 and rivered the Ace to get up to an astounding chip lead of 4.3 million!

Marc Goodwin has 880,000.

And Paul Jackson therefore 500,000 or thereabouts."

16:01:51 EDT Phil Ivey wins!!!
Phil Ivey will take home $1,000,000 and a championship vase for the win.

Championship VASE! ROFLOL!11

Oh you Euros...funny as hell... A macho game like poker giving out a special vase as a prize. I'm suprised Tony G didn't smash it over Phil's head when he busted...

F**k your Vase mate! I'm going to destroy you!!!@2

Paul Jackson will take home $600,000 for 2nd place.

A few more wins and this Phil Ivey kid is going to show himself as a fairly sound tournament player. Now if only he could make some noise in cash games.

EDIT:
This win jumps Ivey all the way to the top 5 in the all time money list (http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/rank.php?a=r&n=1) (according to the Hendon Mob anyway).

Two hours after Ivey wins, he's on Full Tilt playing $1/2 NL. Chatting with everyone about room service and where he's going tonight. Then he calls this guys all-in for $214, guy shows aces full, Phil shows quad 9's! everyone laughs and Phil apoligizes and says he'll be back later to give the guy a chance to win his money back. Too funny!

It's official:

Tiger Woods is the Phil Ivey of golf.

Surprised there hasnt been more discussion on this a there is a lot of stuff going on the UK forums due to TonyG and his antics mainly against Ram Vaswani.

Including Tony ending up calling most of the Hendon Mob crap and one of the writers there The Camel a wanker on the blonde forum where he was admin (he now has been kicked off there).

Ivey speaks (or types in this case)?

But in all seriousness, it's nice to see him take a big one down
