View Full Version : Empire Poker writing off bad checks?

11-21-2005, 07:49 PM
I played empire for about 18 months before moving to party once they started up the player rewards systems. I used to deposit to empire by using the eChecks by IGM-Pay. Occasionally I would bounce a check, and get an email + phone call telling me i had to pay up which i always did. Right before i left Empire (about 6 months ago) I deposited $100 via eChecks which was return because i didnt have the funds in my checking account. I ignored the emails and phone calls and after a month never heard a word from them again. I have since closed that checking account.

Now what i did is wrong and i realise this but it brings up a question. I went back to empire over month ago and for the hell of it tried to deposit $1000 using the echecks. I no longer have the checking account and really didnt think it was going to work. But... i did it anyways and the $1000 was approved instantly and they took back the $100 i owed them leaving me with $900 in my account. I couldnt believe it. Well stupid me sat down at the 30/60 table (im a 1/2 player) and i just gambled that $900. Well i got lucky and turned that into $3000 and cashed it out to my epassporte account. I got an email saying that the cashout was in progress and the original deposit had to clear. At this point i assumed once the check was returned they would either take back all the money $3000..... or take back the $1000 and leave me with $2000. Well.... 7 days later i got an email saying the cashout was approved and sure enough. I have $3000 in my epassporte account.

What the hell happened? How did it happen?

My guess is empire is just running into the ground and things are all messed up for them for this to happen. BTW never got a phone call... email.. or letter from empire or my old bank and its been over 45 days since i did the deposit. I ended up cashing my epassporte out to my checking account and now physically have $3k that i shouldnt have.

Any thoughts on what happened.

Ohhhh, oh, oh, oh, ohhh.
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.

Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly away. You let me fly so high.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.

Fly, fly, fly high against the sky,
so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you,
thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings.

I turned a friend on to the whole online poker thing and after losing a few Gs at PP the first week he started writing checks off closed accounts at a couple different sites, not saying it's right, but Empires not the only one.

writing bad echecks is, of course, against the law. however, writing bad echecks on an account you closed, is complete fraud.

i suggest you write empire and tell them you made a mistake - you submitted that echeck, but thought you had registered your new checking account. explain it was a simple mistake on your part. then offer to send them the 900 or whatever it is. theyll be happy theyre getting anything out of you id imagine.

you still get your winnings and you will have some piece of mind that they wont come after you 6 months from now.

i would be absolutely shocked if you havent heard from them within a few months if you dont cough up the 900 to them.

So i called up empire and explained how i forgot to update my new checking account because its been so long since i last played. I offered to transfer the 900 back...youll never believe what they said...

She said Empire is in the process of switching from igm-pay and they have been having ongoing technical issues which resulted in deposits being credited but never processed (ie taken from your checking). She said more then likey "NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT" and said they werent requesting players to square up. WTF? I KNEW something was up. Empire is spiraling out of control.

so I got a small check for about $250 from empire for a cash out about 6 weeks ago and it bounced. First time from any poker site and I have played on 40 different sites. They never contacted me but when I emailed them they told me a replacement check was in the mail and it did come a few days later. They said that there was a problem with that account, I guess they are having lots of problems.

DOes this concern any of the high limit players on empire? I have a few thousand on empire but that's pennis compared to some 100/200 and such players.

I've had the strange feeling like empire is gonna go pokershare on us one day - anyone else have this concern opinion? I've asked this qustion a bunch of times and nobody gives me an answer.

That would mean they'll pay you your balance before they disappear...

Most people, including me, got checks from Pokershare that were cleared without a hitch.

Empire is completely healthy financially, you don't have to worry. It's just unclear what network they are going to use. I would guess iPoker since they also own Noble Poker. No worries-check out there financials. EOL is publically traded company in the UK.

You always have to consider the source and FWIW I take anything somebody with two posts says with a salt shaker

Also I would think it is uncommon for most regular 2+2 types to be a regular depositer especally with e-checks. So what motive does this guy have to come on here and spread this sort of rumor?

It is possible they just sold the debt to a collection agency, which will soon make your life a living hell. Have fun with that.
