View Full Version : Middle Pocket Pairs

11-20-2005, 03:51 AM
I have been playing lot of sngs lately and most of the time when i get eliminated in the early/middle stages of the tournament, it is when I have middle pocket pairs. I was wondering what all of you guys do with these hands.
Thanks in advance

try not putting all your chips in in the early and early-mid stages of the tournament with low and mid pairs that haven't improved on the flop.

I recommend flopping more sets.

Edit: Seriously, fold them.

Unless the situation calls for otherwise, such as if the raise I'm considering calling with my medium pair is against a maniac who likes to raise with any 2, I treat medium pocket pairs like I treat small pairs. I'm only calling to try to flop a set and if not I'm done unless I'm pretty sure I'm ahead.
And under most circumstances, I treat 10,10 as a medium pocket pair. Yes, I'll raise with it if I'm opening, but will only call a raise with it and be ready to let go if I don't hit a set.

this maniac that is going to raise with any 2, first of all seems to not happen to often and if he does how do you play post flop? Odds are there are going to be overs probably more than 1. He might actually have a hand. He might hit, who knows. I just think that playing that way without playing for set value is not going to be easy, or even good at that.

i think he is saying fold them if he is goign to be losing all these chips on them.

i limp and fold to a raise preflop unless it's QQ+ usually, in which case i reraise. i call with JJ.

At most limp with 77-TT. I actually fold all of them except JJ+ in which i put all my money behind it (unless there're lots of callers and the flop has an overcard and a big better). I find them to be a big waste of chips and you'll find yourself with <550 chips by level 4, which is a very little in terms of folding equity.

These hands are great when you hit a set and easy to fold when you dont. I like playing them when you can get in cheap. Dump them when your set doesnt come.

do you fold 22-66 for 15 or 30?

middle PPs are my favorite. get to see a flop for cheap and they are easy to get away from. i love to see a flop ESPECIALLY with limpers. took a guy out of a STT today when i had 55 and he had KK on a 985 rainbow flop /images/graemlins/smile.gif i'll take 77 over more premium hands because they tend to wreck opponents playing overpairs
