My friend and I were having a disagreement as to whether it is appropriate to 3bet in this situation.

6-handed on Party 20/40. We have 2, yes 2 posters in UTG and CO. MP1 is an absolute nut. He'll cap any ace PF, along with a wide range of other hands. I love him to death. BB is a decent player who should know that MP1 will cap this PF.

I have 9 /images/graemlins/club.gif9 /images/graemlins/spade.gif on the button

UTG check, MP1 raises, CO calls, I ???

Raise and follow-up on the flop with a bet.

i think it's an easy 3 bet. if the 2nd poster really liked his hand, he would have 3 bet the obvious fish open raise. so you not only likely have the best hand, but the best position as well, and it would be nice to bump out the utg poster.

PLUS

your fish boy might cap it out and you might lose the other poster!

You make it 3-bets. MP's hand rates to be worse than yours and a poster will correctly defend with a wide variety of hands. UTG will probably fold his post as well.

If by interesting you mean ridiculously standard and completely boring, then I think your post title is great.

Easy 3-bet

Can we at least change this to 66 or KJ or something?

Well, my line was to 3-bet, but my friends arguement was that 3-betting doesn't clear anybody out (or at least very few people fold) and that 3betting, when I know it will be capped creates a pot that I can't take down with mere aggression. If I choose to just call, I can shut out a lot of draws on the flop with a raise (as we know super agro will bet). Also, with a hand like 99, you are often folding on many flops, so why juice it? We know that it will be at least a 3-way pot, and possible more, so it is unlikely that 99 can win it UI.

That was his position. My position is the 3bet will often get this to be 3-way, and it is an equity edge to raise here. My friend was pretty adamant, so I thought I'd post it here.

As it worked out, Uber-agro and I capped a 7 high /images/graemlins/diamond.gif /images/graemlins/diamond.gif flop 4-ways after seeing capped 5-way PF action. K /images/graemlins/diamond.gif on the turn and a bet from UTG was all it took to get me out of there though I miss hitting my one and only out on the river. K /images/graemlins/club.gifT /images/graemlins/spade.gif took it down from UTG and uber-agro MP1 had A /images/graemlins/heart.gif6 /images/graemlins/club.gif. Monster pot. Wish I had stayed to catch my out. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ]the KJ would be a no brainer, but 66 could be debatable.

Oh it was awesome. This guy was paying off like a slot machine. Spew spew spew. If you had two pair, you were good to cap every street agianst him. Sadly, I was sharing him with 2 other pros before the two posters sat down. I quit for dinner soon after the posters sat down.
