View Full Version : How big a mistake was my raise.

11-19-2005, 05:46 PM
I am only about a month into my poker playing, obviously, still have much to learn.

I am most concerned with maximising my wins, minimising my loses (aren't we all LOL)

Any comments welcome.

The raise PF was HORRIBLE. Just limp in with the rest, this raise isn't going to get anybody to fold, and you're just creating a bigger pot with a weak hand which is unlikely to hold up.

On the turn, as the board is a complete rainbow (no flush draws) and you have the nut straight, I'll probably use my position to flatcall and let the better bet into me again on the river and then raise... you're more likely to get called here IMO.

Thanks. As I was doing the pre flop raise, I knew it was wrong, but the donk in me won over.

/images/graemlins/wink.gif We've all been there, done that. The important thing is you've realised it, and learnt from it, oh and not to do it again. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Every time you min-raise, the baby Jesus kills a kitten.

Seriously, the only, only, only time you ever min-raise is to be deceptive. And you only do this very, very rarely (ie: with monster hands versus LAGs who like to come over the top of "weak" bets).

QJo is NOT a raising hand with 2 limpers on level 1. Most posters in this forum will tell you to simply fold pre-flop here.

That being said, Flop play is fine. Turn I'm probably just calling and hoping villain feels like betting the River. Raising the Turn after only calling the Flop pretty gives away your hand as either QJ or 99 (or maybe something like T9 or K9 - At any rate, villain is not going to call with only a pair unless he's spectacularly bad (which, of course, is why it happens all the time... /images/graemlins/smile.gif )).

If villain checks the River, I'm betting half pot (and probably not getting called). If he bets then I'm just pushing since at least half his stack will be in there and he may not be able to get away.
