View Full Version : "Official" Live at the Bike thread (11/18) (10/20 NL, VIP Night)

Kevmath

Tonight's show is 10/20 NL, with a special prize awarded the "VIP" player of the night. The player who performs the best will win some Paul McCartney tickets (or maybe Juan Gabriel if Jesus wins). Jesus, Corp. Mike, Action Joe Ngyuen and others will be on hand to hopefully mix it up. Last night's $200 game was probably one of the worst shows (and threads) to appear in a while. It was full of passive, weak play and friends checking each other down. Too many off topic posts/pictures last night drove some people to ask that the thread get moved back to where it came from. So tonight, I make a desperate plea to try and steer the discussion to what's happening on the table. If not, then the thread will be on the move yet again until it's put out of its misery eventually.

Kev,

Apologize if I did anything of the sort. I tried to liven the thread up ONLY AT THE END (last 5-10 min.) with my tourney post...but hey, check it out:

Congrats on your 2nd place, I was referring more to the various pictures posted in the thread. At least poker was being discussed in your hand, although maybe the HH's here was a little much.

surfinillini
11-18-2005, 09:58 PM
I did not post HH and I thought it was out of place too (especially if it was unconverted /images/graemlins/grin.gif ).

I think someone else did once the show was over...either way, I'm anxious to see if action Joe can for once bank a winning session.

Honestly, Im not even sure why they bother showing the 200NL game. I find it very dull personally. Maybe if they had the same game with deeper stacks I could stand it.

You can't blame anyone in the thread for veering off the show when there is no poker being played and its instead a bunch of friends softplaying each other and the ones who aren't softplaying are slowplaying to the river. Last night's show should just be discarded as an aberration due to the play and players on the table. Nobody wants the thread to degenerate into an OOT discussion but it's unavoidable when the show is totally unwatchable.

Last night was pretty hard to watch. However, I guess some think that the thread is a "disservice" to the forum (as well as threads about the Mahatma v KKF battle). I don't want to take it back to the WPT forum, and there's maybe one other forum the thread could be in that would be a good fit. Hopefully there's good poker tonight, and that is the dominant discussion in the thread.

Bart and David,

Here's how to the make the Whale Game on Wednesday night better. Invite Prahlad Friedman to play in it. We were chatting with him at Prima the other night and he said you guys tried inviting him.

Tell Yosh to call him up or whoever does it. It would be a real treat if he does show up because he cleans up online at 50/500 and 100/200 NL HE.

The whole idea behind "Bluff Night" was to induce action; didn't it do so? I mean I suppose it's pretty thrilling to watch the "Best Player of the Night" make a stop bet on the river with a marginal hand, or bet into a made flush on the flop, but is that the most compelling thing to watch on TV? GIMME TEH BLUFF!!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with straddling in deep stack NL poker, especially if the table is playing tight.

I love to do it because it projects a loose image, when in most games I play a very TAG game.

It's good to advertise your looseness and maybe get caught once or twice bluffing to get paid big down the road.

cwsiggy

I guess straddling is the same cost as limping, but I'd rather limp with hands tha tI see rather than random hands. I guess straddling gives a better loose image though. Makes sense.

That's the second time I heard something to the effect of "he's only invested $20, he should be able to get away from this". The 2nd time in reference of Mike's call of a limp-reraise with 88 against Tommy's AA.

"He's only invested ___ dollars"... should never be a reason for a decision to call, raise or fold. What you put in the pot is no longer yours. It's now in the pot and you use pot odds to determine if you should call, raise or fold (as well as remaining stacks for implied odds).

Sorry, but I've heard "I've only put $xx in the pot, I'm getting away from this" a lot, and it's this faulty logic which leads to poor decisions.

George's fan could be a guy... from google

Eros - Eros is the the Greek god of love and beauty. He stands over love with Aphrodite and education with Athena. He is also considered a protector of liberty. Additionally, Eros stands for homosexual love between men and adolescent youth. Certain Greek armies made sacrifices to him before battle, because the love between male soldiers was believed to ensure military success.

11-19-2005, 01:08 AM
Thanks for watching! Good poker tonight, but kind of slow for a friday night.

Mike really appreciated the McCartney tickets and thanks everyone that voted. We ended the show one hand too early - I went out to the table to see a 7,000 pot between Mo and Tommy. The flop had come out 10-J-Q with two spades. Mo had k-9 of spades and Tommy had ace-jack of spades.... Mo checked, Tommy bet, Mo check raised and Tommy Moved all-in...Mo Called.

They ran it three times - Mo won twice and Tommy once.

Anyway, Monday should be alot of fun...Heads up No-limit hold'em. See ya then!
Have a great weekend!
