In the case of either:

a) a rainbow flop
b) two of a suit on the flop

And having flopped the nut straight - is it best to:

i) first to act - check-call, check-raise, or bet

ii) 2nd to act, and bet at - call, or raise

Obviously 'it depends' again - but in general what are the odds of getting busted out by say the board pairing and an opponent's trips becoming a full house?

Or is the opponent having trips rare enough that I shouldn't worry about it and should slow-play most of the time, especially on a rainbow flop?

I don't think I would fully slowplay a nut straight, unless I was trying to get tilt a particular opponent.

I would raise and call a reraise on the flop, but fire out on the turn and river. I've had too much "bad luck" giving
free cards to let them have infinite odds.

Even more reason to fire out on the flop if a flush draw is possible. Even if you bet the pot or more, you'll still sometimes get callers on a flush draw. They'll hit 1/3 of the time, and unless you're very disciplined, you're gonna lose a lot of chips when they hit. Better to make them pay when they don't have it.
