View Full Version : Minimum bet question

11-17-2005, 11:14 PM
I'm trying to help out some dealers that are new to PLO. Is the minimum bet equal to the big blind as in NL Hold'em or is it somehow related to the size of the pot? I'm interested particularly in Las Vegas, I hear in New Orleans the minimum bet is half the size of the pot.

Well, a casino can have what ever rules they want, but online, the minimum bet is usually the big blind.

There is no way the minimum bet can be less than the big blind, though it could be more in the case of a straddle. What is sometimes in dispute is the size of a pot raise preflop, as to whether you count the small blind only for what it is, or as a completed bet equal to the big blind.

I know the bet cannot be less than the big blind. I'm talking about a minimum bet, say after the flop, turn or river. Apparently a dealer I know from New Orleans says the minimum bet there (not raise, BET) is half the pot. I would have thought it would be like in NL where the minimum is the size of the BB. I'm trying to find out what is generally done in LV. I know the small blind is often considered a full bet for the purposes of how much is in the pot, especially if the SB is an odd amount, like in a game with $2/$5 blinds.

Postflop the min bet should still be the big blind. 2+2 publishes a handbook for dealers if I am not mistaken and I think Bob Ciaffone has as well. These should outline proper pot limit procedure and that room needs to get one of them. You could also PM Ray Zee and ask him to respond to this thread if they will as they should, take his word on it.
