$30 Limit tourney on Stars. I started off really well, then had two big hands snapped and I was just barely hanging on. I had to go all-in twice and I survived both. We're down to 34 players from the 162 that started. My stack is slightly below average. I have about 5200 and the blinds are 200/400.

I openraise in MP with 77. Table has been really tight. I get 3-bet by the small blind, I call, we're heads-up.

Flop comes 9-7-2. He bets and I smoothcall.

Turn is a Jack. He bets, I raise, he 3-bets and I cap.

River is a brick. He bets and i call all-in.

He has JJ.

Maybe I'm just whining, but it was a tough way to get eliminated. And winning this pot would have put me in really good shape.

"Thoughts/comments? "

Well, don't call a three bet by the SB preflop with a pair of sevens? I dunno...........

But I was getting 6:1 on the preflop call, closing the action. If I don't spike the set I'm folding to his flop bet. I don't think I made a mistake in seeing the flop?

I don't think you made a mistake anywhere. I don't think you do either. Just crappy luck he hit is 2 outer. Oh well.

I thought the odds of hitting your set on the flop was 8:1?

I thought the odds of hitting your set on the flop was 8:1? Plus this is a tournment so you don't want to be drawing.

Those are the odds, yes, but I can make up the other bets (and maybe more) after I flop the set.

Tyler when you describe the table as "really tight" then get three bet by a "really tight" player in the SB who is out of position you must believe he has you beat. in a ring game I probably make a crying call, in a limit tournament I probably fold.

Its a clear call getting 6-1 with position and a pre-flop 3-bettor from the small blind who is going to give you the necessary post-flop action (read implied odds) to call with this slight underlay in immediate pot odds.

I think you played it fine.

Nice play - bad beat.

You don't necessarily need to hit a set to win the hand. A reraise doesn't automatically mean an overpair.

I think you should raise him, i did see if there was a flush possibility, but if he three bet you, and you plan to fold to his bet anyway, then you are assuming he will give you some action. The level's at 400-800 i think he is more likely to call this 400 raise, and maybe even re-raise, (he thinks you have AQ or something...??) thinking he has you beat. i understand why you didn't raise, but i think you should have rasied. In retrospect you probably would have gotten played with, and then you would feel even better about your play. Getting cute is risky business, but this was, obviuosly, a bad beat.

This is certainly true (he may have AK), but in the tournament I can't find spray chips to find out. It's better to wait for a hand where I'm a favorite. I've got to stay out of a marginal situation (which this definitely is (does he have an overpair or overcards--let's find out)) b/c it's a tournament.

I think folding preflop in limit is ridiculous. The rest of the hand...what can you do, [censored] happens.
