To elaborate on that, every time I see a seemingly "tight/aggressive/good"-player call first-in that late, he either has a monster like AA or KK, or he has something like A8s-ATs or T9s-QJs, because he has read in a book that those hands do well multiway.

But A9s is not an enormous favourite against most hands, so you would rather like to steal those blinds (or at least making them pay to see the flop), than to just call and give the SB nice odds to complete and give BB infinite odds to hit the flop. You have an equity edge, raise it.
