View Full Version : 3-6 NL live - limp reraise preflop

I am playing 3-6Nl in a casino, the game is loose aggressive, 2-3 players are gambling frequently.

I have been playing around 3 hours, i am a regular and have a tight image. At the time of this hand i hadnt shown down a hand for at least the last hour.

UTG i am dealt AKd (my stack is at 490). The same player was making it 30-40 to go every other hand so i decided to limp and see what happens. I limp in, 2 players fold, Player i expected to raise makes it $40. 2 cold calls and both blinds call. I know that the initial raiser has an idea of how tight ive been playing. I reraise to $200. Initial player instafolds, next player folds, button starts thinking for about a minute, then says quietly to guy beside him "i need to hit 2 pair", and calls. both blinds fold.

the caller has around 1200 behind and is running good.

a player sitting next to me who is friends with the caller, says to me, "dont worry your good. he wants some action."

before the flop is dealt, the caller says, "i check blind"
.. kind of weird since i am first to act.

1. what do people think of making this play in this kind of loose casino game? I think with my image in most cases i would take the pot down preflop. Is limp reraising non pairs to reckless against weak players?

2. My decision was i have to push my remaining 290 at any flop here. Does anyone think otherwise? I assume this player puts me on a pair.

3. When player said i check blind, should i have said "i bet allin blind" ? Or is it better to say nothing and just do it.

anyway, flop is rags 9 5 3 not suited. I bet $290.

any comments appreciated.

Did he do this knowing you'd hear him?

I was in seat 2, and he is in seat 9, talking to seat 8. I dont think he intended me to hear. more like he was thinking outloud. Kind of said it in a guilty way like he cant resist calling.

I think the key decision here is what you're doing preflop.

With a $200 pot and 5 potential opponents in the hand, do you think pushing would have been better than raising to $200?

AK is a hand you need to see 5 cards with. It's an all in preflop tournament hand which is useful in that it is seldomly dominated.

Against those types of players who's thought process doesn't go much beyond 'how much do i have to call to see more cards' preflop I think a push accomplishes what you want more often, and if he does call with something like T9 you're not put in a weird spot on the flop where you may not have enough left to push a mediocre player out of the pot when you miss.

when limp raising with the AK suited or not you are almost positive youre going to get called in at least 1 spot and maybe up to 2 or 3 more.

youre fixing to play a big pot OOP with AK high. if its something you like to do then fine. but with this kind of table, if you dodge well yes you were most likely ahead but on the flop is a horse of a different color.

luckily you got it heads up and maybe this push is the best idea.

i realize you want to trap some dead money, but with a hand like AK in a crazy game like this your best bet is to lead out pretty strong preflop or just flat call and try and make a decision where you could pick someone off.

i dont like the limp raise, even if you know hes gonna pop it. maybe all in, but youre live not tournament.

imo. either flat call or lead out, and yell diamonds before the flop comes so you can maybe get paid.
