"Ace of Spades" is one of the top 10 rock songs of all time, IMO.

"Pushing up the ante, I know you want to see me, read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again."

I am surprised The Clash have 2 entries. I am going to look at the lyrics for those.

"That Was A Crazy Game of Poker" ~Oar

and I thought "House of the Rising Sun" was written by the Animals, not Dylan?

Van Zandt is great. Look for Live at the Old Quarter, if you can find it.

Also the Dylan song is on a great album, Blood on The Tracks.

"The House of the Rising Sun" was written by Bob Dylan and originally released on his album Bob Dylan in 1962. The Animals did a cover version of the song, and released it in 1964. It was easily their biggest hit, and an excellent cover.

I like the song Acid Test by Chemical Brothers.
The chrous goes:
"Did you pass, the Acid Test?"

I like to pretend they are singing:
"Did you pass, the AQ Test?"

The New Orleans Radiators do a couple. One is a cover, Jack of diamonds and another one if theres, Ace in the Hole.

Here's a verse of Jack of Diamonds "bet my money, on a trey, didn't give it all away, jack of diamonds is a hard card to play. Bet my money on a 7......"..you get the drift...

Another song is "Ace in the hole"

A D
I got an ace in the hole
A D
I got an ace in the hole
C# F#m
Old man time has got my body
C# F#m (E)
And Scratch has got my soul
D A Cdim7 Bm7
But don't shed no tears when I go under
D E A
'Cause I got an ace in the hole

D Ebdim7
When the chips are down
A D A
The chips are always down
D F#m
Let the chips fall where they may
E
This boy came here to play

{instrumental verse}

17 and I'm beaming
Already felt like I paid twice
Matchbox garter in the French Quarter
Oh what a fool's paradise
Books and plans
They could not stand
Against the sunshine orange and gold
Kings and queens dressed up in rags
But I found an ace in the hole

I can't get an ace in the hole or see a Jack of diamonds without having either one of those songs go off in my head. Talk about a tell one day at the casino I caught myself humming it to myself...thankfully the mopes at the casino aren't all that clued in to fishhead music.....

If you want to get clued in to some of the best New Orleans has to offer check out www.radiators.org (http://www.radiators.org) and see them when they come to your town...you will not regeret it always a good time listening to Fishhead music....

Dude.. House of the Rising Sun was on Dylan's first album, but he didn't write it. It's a traditional folk song...

Majorkong, I was under the impression Dylan wrote it since he was the first artist, that I knew of, to release it. Thanks for the correction.

although Dylan's first album is my favorite of his, he didn't actually write any of the songs on it, if I'm not mistaken. but yeah, he recorded it first, and then The Animals. I like Dylan's version a bit better. and I like his version of 'In My Time of Dying' better than Zep's (although Zep is my favorite band...)

Woody Guthrie if I'm not mistaken.

No one has mentioned my favorite: Cry Me a River.

But then, I've been wrong before.

I just don't think any of us had the cojones to name a Justin Timberlake song...

(also, just realized this is my 200th post, making me an enthusiast...as though that meant something. And it had to be talking about Justin friggin' Timberlake)

The name Justin Timberlake rings a bell, but I have no idea who he is. Cry Me a River is a standard, composed in 1953 by Arthur Hamilton, and recorded by maybe a thousand ballad singers.
