if you're really gonna make the effot. you should really wait till spring. the experience will have much more to offer.

i'd suggest greece, florence, prague, berlin, barcelona, paris, amsterdam, (amoung others)

I think the weather is like mass, so really no problem. I grew up in the arctic wasteland of canada remember. Got a beginner textbook on the way, and I might get a long tape set to study for the next couple months. Just speaking english won't really be a problem finding a place to stay, but I'll definitely be taking classes there.
Rachel's plate or something - two fried eggs, hash browns, bacon, and 2 pancakes. Fantastic - we went back again today. You?

Also, they smoke non-stop which helps kill their appetite. That was the only negative I found with girls in Spain.

how has no one suggested ljubljana as a destination yet?

buffett

I was in Krakow and Prague last summer, and here is a brief trip report....(warning...%ages exaggerated for effect)....80% of the people in Prague were American tourists. I was there in 98/99 also and it was more like 25%. Krakow05 was about 10% American tourists, so it's not quite yet the "new Prague," but it's on its way.

Three random points.....
1. I agree with edtost that Ljubljana is great.
2. I dig the small little towns along the way, like Cesky Krumlov, Cesky Budejovice (only for the brewery....no other redeeming value), Opole, Bratislava (bigger than a small town, but holy cow we had a huuuge sausage and beer fest for about $7 per person), ....
3. Even though Prague is quickly learning the art of "capitalism", U Medvidku (I don't care if some people label it a tourist trap) has some 'wedding feast' meal thing with tons of food and a cheap price tag.

Prague is best in the winter, at least then you don't have the tourist hoards.

I also reccomend ljubljana, and wish I had more time to travel in Slovenia. Great Christmas markets.

My favourite European destination is Spain though, really liked Granada, although Barcelona is more of a single mans destination.

Good luck with your trip.

Barcelona rocks. I agree with Diablo about Las Ramblas and it's key to stay near there, and then go off the main roads and find some local cafes/diners for some good cheap food. Plenty of night life in that city every day of the week too. Nice beaches. Overall great place.

Amsterdam another place you need to go to.

I haven't been to Austria but everyone I have spoken with who's traveled Europe says awesome things about it.

Wow. Mind sharing a little bit about why you're living in Berlin, how long you've been there, how you like it, etc?

I lived in Regensburg (about an hour north of Munchen) for a little over 6 months. Only made it up to Berlin once, and didn't really like it; too spread out for my tastes. Lots of historical [censored] to see, though.

well i dont really have a specific reason for being here. i did a little mini-tour of europe in may and decided i wanted to move over here for a bit. since berlin is the only place where i know people (close cousin and a few friends met through him), i came here. i've only been here 15 days now and my german is nicht gut, so i cant really say how much i like it. although it does grow on me a bit every day.

I am living in Holland (Amsterdam), let me know when you are around.
Great places to visit:
Amsterdam (hookers, drugs, parties, casino spreading LHE. What more ya want?)
Brugge (Belgium, one of the most beautifull cities in Europe with many bridges. Hence the name Brugge)
Berlin (Germany, party central, because of cheap cost of living many artists like poets and painters live here)
Barcelona (Spain, go to a soccer match, visit the Sagrada Familia)
Rome (Italy, students(lots of em), more sites to visit then you will be able to)
Prague (Tsjech republic)
The isles of Greece (great weather, food, and historical sites)
Ibiza (isle of spain, super expensive, beautifull nature, wicked parties)

Other great cities/sites:
Florence, Venetia and Pompei(Italy)
Paris and Versailles(France)
London York, the Scottish Highlands, a hike through Ireland(UK)
The Alps (Switzerland, Austria)

a lot of place are just overun by tourists in the summer, and locals aren't even around.
