I was recently at the bookstore, and noticed a couple of poker books that they were offering, and wanted to get some feedback as to whether or not they are worth getting:

Winning Methods of Bluffing & Betting in Poker
by Lynne Taetzsch

77 Ways to Get the Edge at Casino Poker
by Fred Renzey

How To Play Winning Poker
by Avery Cardoza

The Complete Book of Hold 'Em Poker: A Comprehensive Guide to Playing and Winning
by Gary Carson

Also, they had a paperback version of Supersystem. Is the info in that still valid?

I already own and have read/reread all the advanced players books as well as TOP and a couple of Ciaffone's books. I was just wondering if any of these books would also have value.

Hi,

if you have read all the books you said you read, the only book I would get is SS. But I have not read the others, so I cannot say anything about them.

SS is a very good read, though; some of it is outdated, but the general advice, the stories and the Stud section alone are worth it.

What about "The Expert at the Card Table"? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Thanks for the reply. I was really tempted to get super system, but I wasn't sure which advice would be valid and which would not. Does anyone know if the new paperback version has any revisions? Is the outdated material obvious ( changes in blind/ante structures etc.) or fairly esoteric ( players today know more about some strategies like freecard semi-bluffs so they don't work as well any more) ? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Carsons book is well worth the price.

Hi Terry,

Definitely a book worth checking out, although I suspect it won't help you to win at poker unless you put in some 6-8 hours per day for a year or two...lol.

At last a connoisseur.

PS: Are you into magic, or just knowledgable?

Hi Mano,

get SS, it is worth it. As far as outdated info is concerned, if you read (or reread) the Advanced Series and the Ciaffone books, they become apparent, I believe (although I am far from being an expert). I think the main reason some of the concepts do not apply anymore, is that a lot of players have read this book; however, I would still recommend it.
I know I got a lot out of it.

Enough of each to speculate that you would know the book. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I liked Carson's book, especially the stuff on loose games and jammin' the flop.

SuperSystem is good for No-Limit HE, if nothing else. If you don't play NLHE, you can skip it.
