Sorry if this is a repeat question - tried searching for Atlantic City and didn't get anything too helpful.

I'm trying to plan a family event in Atlantic City for around New Years - any recommendations on good package deals, cardrooms/casinos, hotels, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, for you the period around Xmas/New Year's in AC is the extremely high end stuff. The casinos know this and the rates and comps are taken by the high rollers.

In fact I know the New Years party in many of the casinos are geared to those who have pumped them with the loot and the casinos feel its a nice *gift* if the get them drunk during he celebrations. Its a great time to party and Ive done it regularly since I got my place there.

We were planning on going the 29th. I wasn't expecting much in terms of comps.

Hotel/casino recommendations? More specifically, any rooms spreading $1/$2 NL?

Thanks for the recommendations.

We're considering: Hilton, Sheraton, Sands, and Bally's

Anybody know which is the nicest? I know Bally's is the most expensive ...

I glanced online and only the Sands offers a poker room, but I heard it's smokey as all f*ck. So the poker room in the actual casino doesn't matter since I'll probably walk over to the Borgata or Tropicana.

Thanks for the help folks.

I'm pretty sure Bally's has a room too.
And I'm pretty sure you're not walking to the Borgata from there.

AC Sheraton is a very nice hotel...I highly recommend it. Also, you won't be walking to Borgata unless dancing amongst highway traffic is your idea of a vacation. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Have fun!

The Borgata is impossible to walk to from a hotel on the boardwalk. You can get a jitney from one of the other casinos for $1.75 each way (substantially less than paying cab fare), or park at the Borgata's garage - either on your own or by valet - for $5. Also, if your reason for not playing at the Sands is because of second hand smoke, be advised that that the room at the Tropicana is not non-smoking, either.

The Tropicana room IS non-smoking. In some areas of the room, it might be a little smoky, because the entrance is open to the casino. You should not regularly have smoke wafting over the tables, though. I have played 1-2 there three times, and you should be able to do well in the game.

Bally's is a smoking room, and you will very likely have a cigarette in your face if you go there. I'd suggest playing someplace else.

The Borgata is really nice, but tends to have long waiting lists anytime close to a prime time.

I haven't gotten to play at Caesar's or the Showboat. The Showboat has automatic shufflers in all their tables, but not too much action. I was there recently on a Friday night, and they only had one 1-2 table going.

There is always a lot of action going on (and usually not too long waits) at the Taj Mahal, so you might want to check that out, too.

Hope that helps a bit.
