is this the 35% rule in action or am I a donkey?

blinds 50/100

It is folded around to me in the small blind with 1300, villain has 2300.

Hero has: As3h

Hero raises to 400
villain calls
flop Qs6h4d
pot 800, I have about 800 - villain has about 1900

Now, this is a pretty good flop for me, not because I hit it but because it would be hard for him to hit it with any hand that would be calling a raise.

I want to move at this pot.

I was going to make a standard continuation bet (around 400). lately, however I have been mulling around the archives and have become familiar with the "35% rule" wherein (correct me if i am wrong) if you are going to make a bet that is greater than or equal to 35-40% of your stack - you should go all in.

So I went all in

Villain calls, showing Ks6c

Turn is a blank
River is a blank

Villain wins 2600 with a pair of sixes.

I'd raise less preflop to not get myself in this situation. Not sure where you got this 35% rule from. I don't follow it anyway.

Also there's 800 and you have 800, for me that means it's equal to your stack and you want it.. but I wouldn't cont bet in a blinds battle on such a weird flop with A3o. That's just me though. Oh, I could also see an argument for pushing pf even with 13bb. But raising 500 just seems the worst option of all.

I would simply open push from the SB, raising to 300 leaves u in the same crappy "first to act" positon, however other stack need to be seen.
BTW I like ure play on the flop.

I'd either push or raise to between 250-275. On the flop, I'd probably check. What I do next depends on his bet if any. For instance if I sense weakness I may check-raise all-in.

FWIW I don't like the play on the flop much as it reeks of a bluff too much. It's Q64r. What would you push with here? What are you afraid of? Would you really play a Q so strong? Against what we assume to be a random hand of varying strength? Meh.. I can't see it personally.

If you read the rest of that thread, some very good players give good advice stating that the 35% rule applies to PF and not to after the flop.

Either bet less PF or fold PF.
