I was driving around the other day and there was an add for my democratic county freeholders. In the add george bush visited the republican party headquarters. Western old timsy music started playing and George talked with a mid-western accent and slang. Lots of golley gees and talk of time on the farm. Of course, the upscale new jersey republicans wanted nothing to do with the country yocal.

Did they really need to make fun of the entire mid-west during the add? The tie to Bush is specious enough. They are incumbents in largely uncontested seats, they shouldn't need to do this. Sure, the add only ran in new jersey (like a billion times) but I bet it just might leak out because people heard it or talk about it.

You gotta be more respectful of people if you want to win elections.

In all fairness, Repubs frequently use similar tricks whenever they talk about "Those northeastern, elite limousine liberals" or sardonically referring to the entire West coast as the "Left coast."

I agree. I think one of the reasons Bush 41 lost to Clinton was because he got very whiny the last few weeks of the campaign, saying, among other things, that his dog knew more about foreign policy than those two idiots, Clinton and Gore. Gore himself seemed to be talking down to people when he ran for president, and Kerry had an aura of Boston Brahminism about him. It's hard to make yourself into something your not.

I'm seeing a trend here. Toward agreement on something.
And that's a good thing - I think.

You really think that adds (ads to the rest of us) by Republicans are respectful of people or issues?

Who said anything about that.

Certainly you are right, but most of the red states are dominated by conservative christians and 'love it or leave it' patriots. No Democrat will ever get those votes. Now --- Ohio, New Mexico, Florida, Pennsylvania, Missiouri ---those states are centrist and this is where your point comes most into play.

I think you're missing the boat. Democrats routinely win in "red states." Many southern states that went republican in the presidential election have Democratic governors, Democraticly controlled state legislators, Democrats senators, or some combination thereof. But they're not raving socialist Democrats. They're yellow dogs and blue dogs. A non-southern Democrat hasn't won the white house in 45 years, and I doubt one ever will again.

The politics in NJ are extremely nasty. I don't think the ad is indicative of anything else. I don't know what county you live in, but passaic county freeholders specialize in making a profit off the county golf course, and that might be about it.

There's a difference between a Mississippi Democrat and a Ohio democrat. A Mississippi Democrat believes that all Muslims, buddhists, atheists, etc are going to Hell. A Mississippi Democrat believes that Vietnam was just another battle in the cold war. The only thing in common they have with Federalist democrats or centrist states Democrats like the ones from Ohio is Labor. They support agricultural subsidies, minimum wage, tarriffs, etc.

So, as I understand it, they are raving socialist democrats. But socially, they are very conservative. Let's call them authoritarian socialists or the National Christian Communist Party ---NCCP. BTW, I have absolutely no facts to back this up. It's just my uneducated perception. And if I'm right, it's sad that the Democrats actually fund those wackos.

I currently live in a red state. Therefore, no, my IQ isn't 180+, I am clearly dumb.

C'mon man. The point of my admission was to get myself educated, if I'm wrong, not to attract a 'see i told you so' criticism. Get it together and add to the discussion! BTW, I was admittedly too harsh in paragraph, but my main point just makes sense to me. I'm guessing that southern Democrats are social conservatives who are alligned with Labor. Now if you got facts, let's hear 'em.
