View Full Version : barronvangortoth's spammish signature + lame poll

chuddo

i get annoyed when reading threads in which barronvangortoth posts because every single post ends with:
[ QUOTE ]
Barron Vangor Toth
BarronVangorToth.com

[/ QUOTE ]

it strikes me as a bit spammish and unnecessary, as no one else on the forum does such things, despite many members having personal sites and blogs.

i pm'd mat about it and he basically said that he understands and if people complained he would be asked to relent, and recommended i ask barron myself.

i did in two threads and barron did not address my posts at all. hence this thread and poll.

i know some may say i should just block him, but i do not block anyone and it would still piss me off knowing he had that at the end of every two word post of his.

opine?

You seemed to miss the part in the OP where he already asked him in threads twice and Barron ignored him.

chuddo

none of the other posters with personal sites do this. just link it in your profile. or location.

PoBoy321
11-12-2005, 03:32 PM
No, I read that part perfectly. He asked him in a thread, where, if Toth didn't come back and reread the thread, he could easily have missed it. There are much better options than starting a thread about it in OOT which, once again, he could still miss.

chuddo
11-12-2005, 03:34 PM
he didn't miss the posts. he posted in both again numerous times.

PoBoy321

i think its spammy and lame

chuddo
11-12-2005, 03:42 PM
because as mat mentioned to me and as i stated it would be remedied if a number of other posters found it inappropriate.

i figured this to be the best way versus derailing an actual strategy thread. (the threads i posted in originally were random liveatthebike threads)

i have no personal grudge against him other than his spammy signature.

the fact i find his "on the edge" series of articles awful has no bearing on this stance.

Signatures are pretty much universally lame. One can find reasons to have them in email (particularly for work), but on a message board? Seriously lame. I'm really surprised at the outcome of the poll. When I clicked "yes" I honestly expected to see an enourmous bar on the yes vote and virtually no no votes. Wow.

Blarg
11-12-2005, 04:04 PM
They're usually lame and you can usually pass over them too, by changing your preferences in the software.

The spammyness and lameness of the way Toth is doing it is because first, signatures are disabled in these forums, and second, he decided to make one anyway, and you can't avoid it.

The actual clutter it takes up is reasonably minimal, last I saw. I'm sure we've all seen signatures that were so huge that they were bigger than the the posts they were attached to. Even worse when they're incredibly stupid or dull. Toth's seem against the spirit of the forum rules, but basically inoffensive except for that.

He said he hated him and that he should choke on a burger. That's merely descriptive. Nothing even close to ban worthy.

Inflammatory would be more like calling him a name or saying something bad about him. Saying "I hate this guy" sucks in its own way, but doesn't seem to be the kind of thing you're taking it for. I wouldn't celebrate it, but you're misrepresenting it.

I actually think the most annoying thing is when posters write "best wishes" after every 1 sentence post. And sometimes they even have 3-4 posts in this same thread with "best wishes" at the end. It gets a lil ridiculous.

However, I agree with OP. Even though that guy is undoubtedly a much better player than me, I think his self-promotion is really annoying.

This is less than wise. Didn't I read in one of the fight threads some months back that Dominic was in Special Forces? I don't necessarily think that make him super bad ass in a fist fight but that + tennis at a close to world class level suggest he is in good shape and used to using his body. PM him, apologize and end this.

For what it's worth I agree with you regarding the signature and I also think Dominic was being dismissive just because he could. Still, to fight over this would be very retarded not to mention that you are being a bigger dick.

It's in another thread...someone else caught the fact I contradicted myself with the married/engaged thing, and then also pointed out that it was likely I was making a point. I was - and admitted that fact it in the thread. So it's there for all to see.

I was making a point about finding the "love of your life." Married just sounded better than engaged for the point I was making. But everyting else in the thread about being with the woman for X number of years, her being the love of my life, etc., was true. If you think you've caught me in some huge lie, oh well. Guess I'll have to live with the shame.

Maybe someone better than me at the search function on this site can find it, because I can't.

I've played tennis for about 25 years as well, except I never played competitively past high school. Well, I did dominate intramurals mixed doubles in college when my partner was the #1-ranked tennis player in some NE state. She had scholarships to anywhere she wanted to go, but got sick of collegiate athletics and quit after her freshman year. One or two years out and she was eligible for intramurals.

Please talk about your matches with Lendl, Wilander, McEnroe, and Gilbert. And any other interesting matches and tournaments. I don't like Barron for the following reasons(in order so far):

1. His articles. They're always incredibly arrogant and involve him validating either very basic plays or suckouts, based on some obscure refference to DS text.

2. His involvement in the recent discussions in MHL posts. He actually tried to set up an IQ test with El D and Daryn and was (poorly) validating his website.

3. His picture. I'll go ahead and take the hit on this one for being an [censored], but from his picture, I don't like his personality.

You're a joke in this thread, and everyone is going to be laughing at you for some time. LOL...ok. I love you 19 yr. old fucktards with no clue.

[/ QUOTE ]

surely a middle-aged hipster such as yourself can recognize how terribly lame this sounds.

i am not going to resort to lame general insults such as yourself, also because i had assumed you were a decent normal person and not such a bitter douche until now.

but i will be equally gay and let you know i will be out in vegas in march and possibly january, if you would like to meet up and have me beat your ass.

the first official oot fight would surely be entertaining to the masses. along with video of me [censored] you up.

i am 23 by the way, not 19.

just let me know cool guy.

[/ QUOTE ]

OMG this is hilarious. And I have no reason to reply to such juvenile antics. But please, feel free to keep acting like this, I don't mind.

[/ QUOTE ]

Dom,

If it were set up for some cash and filmed, would you be up for a fight against chuddo?

[/ QUOTE ]
this would be beyond awesome if it happened. diablo, didn't you almost set up something like it awhile ago between a poster by the name of "TheBusiness" and some other dude? if i recall, it was gonna go down for $5k, but TheBusiness pussied out. man, i would def. up my pledge to platinum level if you could arrange a 2+2 fight.

Special forces and professional tennis?

The righteous are praised to the skies, the douche-i-fied are taunted and booed until our throats are sore.

OOT does get it right, every once in a while.

I was in the Florida National Guard, based in St. Augustine (where I also went to college) where I received Special Forces training. National Guard SF is different than the regular National Guard, where the deployments are more than the standard 1 weekend a month, two weeks a year gig. I mostly taught tennis, believe it or not.

I've never been to war, never been in a war situation or on a mission. I served proudly and do have the training to seriously fuk someone up. Never used it. Never wanted to. And it was quite a few years ago.

Were you a world-class tennis player as someone else mentioned in this thread?

[/ QUOTE ]

I played tennis for over 25 years, starting when I was 10. I played on the 1986 NAIA National Champs (Flagler College) and then played professionally soradically for two years, mostly in satellite events (sort of the tennis minor leagues). I did qualify for the French Open and I got to play such tennis greats as Ivan Lendl, Mats Wilander and John McEnroe. The highest ranked player I ever beat was Brad Gilbert when he was ranked number 4 in the world.

There.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've played tennis for about 25 years as well, except I never played competitively past high school. Well, I did dominate intramurals mixed doubles in college when my partner was the #1-ranked tennis player in some NE state. She had scholarships to anywhere she wanted to go, but got sick of collegiate athletics and quit after her freshman year. One or two years out and she was eligible for intramurals.

Please talk about your matches with Lendl, Wilander, McEnroe, and Gilbert. And any other interesting matches and tournaments. If you want to start another thread talking about tennis, that would be great. Or, if you don't have that much to write and would like to write it here, that would be great too. Thanks.

[/ QUOTE ]

we should play tennis next time you're in Vegas! I've been looking to get back into it...haven't touched racket in 7 years....

Chuddo, you're making a gigantic ass of yourself. It is approaching train wreck status. Starting this thread was weak enough, but challenging some dude to a fight because he called you "kid"? You're a joke in this thread, and everyone is going to be laughing at you for some time. The fact that Dominick is inexplicably responding to these posts at all (making it seem as if he has to play defense) is the only thing slowing it down. I thought I'd fill you in. Get out before you make more of a mockery of yourself.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm only defending myself to the charges of lying....I wouldn't normally, but since I have given advice to people on 2+2 as "Dr. Dom," I thought it important to make sure people know I'm legitmate. Like I said, feel free to PM and ask me anything you want. I have nothing to hide.

LOL...yes. Sheesh. Do I have proof? No. If someone could get in touch with Jenna would she remember me? I sure as hell hope so, but who knows?

[/ QUOTE ]

Here's a quote from you... "Well, I was a Special Forces OP once upon a time. My roommate's brother, Erik, was still a Navy Seal then. "

Please provide proof. Like a photo of you with some sort of badge or pin or something. Others will be able to verify what it is. you have until 9:30 EST to look for it.

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL...I'm sorry, what's that quote again....wait, I have it...

I know very little what the circuit was like back in 1986-87. But NO player who is "sporadically" playing futures/satellites today even gets a whiff at playing say, Lleyton Hewitt, much less beat him.

Perhaps you're right. I'll apologize.

Sorry, Chuddo, for calling you a Kid and a [censored]. Sometimes I don't think of the posts I'm respoding to as actualy people with feelings, and go over the line. For that, I apologize.

You're fat because you eat butter. How is this possible?

Good question.
It is possibe because I am not a complete tool who devotes himself to insulting people on the internet, and females are sometimes atracted to me. You will understand this when you are a few years older.

Or it was just less competitive back then. But even guys making decent money these days in Challengers are drastically below top 10 level.

Not that I don't believe you. Not that either of us care if I don't. Just saying that a sporadic futures player isn't beating #4 in the world in today's game.

Back then, I believe the top players would throw a match early in the tourney. I'm not sure exactly why they did this, but I think it was to collect an entry fee. I believe jon mcenroe blew the lid on this one.

Anybody else think Dr. McGuilicuddy's rules?
