Hey everyone, I have a question about a passage in sshe.
I was perusing the text yesterday while playing nano, and saw a portion which said something to the effect of "if you are getting 5 to 1 on drawing odds, you need the pot to lay about 8 to 1 in order to turn profit." I though if pot odds exceeded drawing odds then you're getting the best of it.

What am I missing?

thanks in advance

Is it possible that they are taking into account that if you miss your draw on the turn your going to have to pay at least one more bet to see the river? Thats the only thing i can think of this early in the morning

You will not win every time you hit the draw (you will be beated some of those or even get a tie). So, you need more pot odds than your draw odds to make profit...

By the other hand, specially on low limit tables (loose kind) you should rely more on implied odds. On those cases pot odds = draw odds are often more than enough because the pot will grow significantly till the showdown.
