From allvegaspoker.com

It was a really interesting idea when it was originally announced last year. The likable and easygoing professional poker player Daniel Negreanu would play exclusively at the new Wynn poker room. He would serve as an ambassador by ushering high limit players inside, and hopefully build some credibility for Wynn’s new poker room.

There was only one problem. The big game never left the Bellagio.

Daniel Negreanu’s contract with Wynn obligated him to play exclusively at Wynn’s poker room. This meant that Negreanu missed out on the high stakes cash games across the street at Bellagio. Negreanu said that although his contract with Wynn was lucrative given his responsibilities there, it wasn’t rich enough to compensate for missing out on all the action at the hugest cash games in town.

Negotiations recently held between Negreanu and Wynn that could have led to a new contract fell apart because of Wynn’s insistence that Negreanu confine his play to Wynn’s poker room.

It’s a shame that this concept didn’t work. I like the idea of celebrity endorsements, and it would have been cool to see more professional poker players endorsing local card rooms. That sort of thing goes a long way toward giving a particular poker room some personality.

Could you imagine the Vegas poker room where a guy like Phil Hellmuth might be ambassador? Or, how fun would it be to try and pair a poker celebrity with the poker room at the El Cortez? Actually, I think Scotty Nguyen would be perfect at the Imperial Palace!

Imperial Palace doesn't really have a poker room.

it has a poker room - you may not like it, but it has one.

It'll be hosting the World Poker Blogger Tourney Winter Classic, so we'll have a few pros there as well -

Now, if you tell me the Imperial Palace won't be there much longer, that I will believe...

Could he scrape up a buy-in for the 1-5 stud game? If so he'd fit the El Cortez perfectly!!

if wynn wanted to compete with the belagio poker room he should have hired a more qualified manager. players couldn't give "a rats ass" if negreanu is imbassador.

wynn needed a great poker mind (ie like belagio's bobby baldwin) to give the players what they want.

sklansky or malmuth would have been ideal candidates.....

There isnt a MORE qualified manager in LV than the current one IMO. And it isnt even close. Nor did she come from LV. To get a very good poker room manager today, one needs to look outside LV and look towards the most successful POKER ROOMS not inside a casino. Which is exactly what Steve Wynn did. Making a personal call to the current poker room mgr. Thats a rarity indeed.

If I was opening a poker room I would not want someone with a strictly Vegas back ground. There are a lot of guys out there that have been working 20 years, but only have 1 year's experience 20 times over.

I do not know the manager at Wynn, but I have heard really good reviews of her ability.

Hi Fish:

I really disagree. In my opinion, part of the problem with The Wynn Poker Room was the confusion not only of their manager, but of their swing shift manager who also didn't understand basic concepts as to how a poker room should be run even though their intentions were good.

I do think that part of the reason the room is doing better and is now a better place to play poker at is that the swing shift manager resigned and has been replaced by someone who does know what whe is doing.

best wishes,
Mason

Hi Mason,

I can totally understand your thoughts on the swing mgr. But from what I understand of the poker room mgr She's very well qualified in making a room very successful. Certainly there would be some learning curve to this locality differing from her last position. But overall if she does what her reputation suggests this room will be #2 or #3 to Bellagio & Mirage for a long time. I suggest the only reason it wont become #1 is not enough space, and the long standing "aura" of "Bellagio" along with the tight connection to WPT.

The one thing I was very very surprised about however was the total disallowance of a toke comittee for the dealers. This in the long run hurts them. Too much $$ disappears. Which naturally means better dealers will leave. This has happened already when a rather large toke was left for the dealers and they actually rec'd less than 25% of what they were due by normal standards for a certain event which I wont divulge.

Regards,
Fish

ps...Sorry for the interruption last nite. My mistake.

Aint gonna happen. I just hope someone there sees this and does something about it. Not for my personal benefit...just because of the principle of it.
