Nolanfan - I will have to somewhat agree with you and say it's hard to pick a single favorite Joe. But these 2, IMHO, are far and away superior to others.

I think Storm Shadow may be > than Snake Eyes due to scarcity and that he's a ninja. (I remember the frenzy among my friends for the G1 Storm Shadow, and how eventually finding/buying one was a truly momentous event)

I'm not into polls - if someone wants to post 1 of course feel free to.

i was a total GI JOE FREAK up until and a little after the whole serpentor movement in the early 80's

My favorited ORIGINAL characters besides snake eyes and storm shadow were:

Blowtorch (b/c he could cook flesh!!)
The Twins, Xomax and XXXX (not sure if thats the right spelling)
Torpedo (always patrolling the base underwater)
The dreadnots

My bases:
The JOE Base was the [censored], i had the command center for them & Cobra had ewok village and some sort of oil tanker GI Joe base

Best send away figure: THE FRIDGE!!!

Okay, I'm a total dork for knowing this but the twins were named Tomax and Xamot, and the figures were mirror images of each other.

My favorite G.I. Joe was Beachhead, but he didn't come out until 1986.

They were called Tomax and Xamot.

The Aircraft carrier was an awesome 9' long toy.

Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are the obvious choices, so should be disqualified.

Barring them, some options might be the original Cobra Commander (silver mask not hood), Destro, or possibly Shipwreck.

I enjoyed the GI Joe cartoons far more than the Transformers, despite the Transformers being the greatest toy line ever put out. I need to pick up the DVDs. The shipwreck/insanity episode and Excalibur were great television.

My favorites were Stormshadow, Firefly and Snake Eyes in that order.

I seem to recall the original Snake Eyes having an ammo pouch that basically looked like a purse. I also remember buying my first GI Joes at an M. E. Moses 5/10 and getting Storm Shadow and a Snake Eyes that didn't have swivel arm battle grip.

You remember correctly on all counts.

Firefly was the bomb.

I'm going to go with an oldie but goodie for my pick.

The laser rifle that hooked into his backpack was pimp back in the day.

I still have all of my G.I. Joe's boxed up at my brother-in-law's house. My mom would never let my brother or I sell those, or Legos. Can't thank her enough for that. When we move into our house, I'm getting those back ASAP so I can dig through the boxes and see what I still have. I'll post some pics down the road. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good point IndieMatt - that sucked. But it was very convenient in that they were both in the same pic. I am still remorseful. To rectify

Was there ever any explanation of how a damned ninja could be dressed in white, especially since he was a bad guy?

One of my favorite parts of GI Joe was my cousin who had this magic ability to dissammeble them and then put back together with different parts. It was cool.

barbeque... with his bad boston accent in the cartoon.
shipwreck was a whiny bitch, so he was kinda cool too.

Just in case any of you Joe fans haven't seen these "knowing is half the battle" spoofs. (http://www.ebaumsworld.com/gijoe.html)

Snakeeyes and Stormshadow ruled. I think the first Version of Cobra Commander was the rarest figure out there, only avaible in a set or through mail order...something like that. But I also liked:

Snakeeyes (version 2)
