The death of Billy Wilder reminded me that, for some reason, I own a copy of Double Indemnity and watched it a couple of months ago. I love it every time I see it.
To me, Sharon Stone's character in Basic Instinct comes directly from Barbara Stanwick's in Double Indemnity, and Peter Falk's Columbo is a direct copy of Edward G. Robinson's character in the movie.
My favorite moment is when, after doing their dirty work, the "loving" couple try to start up the car, and it stalls. The worried/nervous glance they give each other while he's trying to start the car is a great, great moment in film.
