View Full Version : "Official" Live at the Bike thread (11/10) (10/20 NL)

Tonight's game is scheduled to be 10/20 NL, with a minimum buyin of $1000. Bart's told me there's a couple of action players, including someone who used to be a regular on the show that hasn't been seen in a while.

Last night's 50/100 NL "Whale Game" had what seemed like at least 10 $15k+ hands, with a few of those around the $25k range. Plenty of action to be had, except for Ed Shazarian. He takes down the largest pot on the show, spiking a flush on the river for about $28k, and then a couple hands later sticks an ultra-tight player to play his chips. He's the type of player you want in the game, but when he gets lucky he'll pull off the hit and run on the table. For those who want to see all the 5/10 NL hijinks, www.liveatthebike.com (http://www.liveatthebike.com) from 6-9pm PT. Hopefully tonight they'll actually start the show on time tonight and have a full 3 hours.

I'm just wondering how much Barry finished up last night. He was staging a late session comeback after getting sucked out for 20K plus...we'll see if he is playing or posting tonight.

edit: Anyone wanna take a 10 minute over/under on how late their gonna start tonight?

I really have tremendous respect for anyone who can handle the swings in this crazy game. It's a good thing Mr. Calloway golf wasn't there last night or he'd have gone off on Yosh about Ed again.

11-10-2005, 10:02 PM
I only watch LATB every once in a while.

Just curious, how often do the "big name" poker players play on there?

On the highlight reel, there are several TV players that are on that but I have yet to see one when I have time to tune in.

Thanks.

11-10-2005, 10:03 PM
Barry had one of the worst nights I have ever seen anyone have.

Kevmath
11-10-2005, 10:04 PM
There were quite a few around when Legends was being held. Sometimes the Friday shows will have someone like Kenna James.

Wednesday/Friday are the nights you're more like to see a known player since the games are higher limit NL games those nights.

BarronVangorToth
11-10-2005, 10:04 PM
I've probably only averaged 1 episode/week since they debuted, but I've seen Barry Greenstein a few times, ditto Tuan Lee, Hassan Habib, and Greg Raymer.

And what's-her-name from Full Tilt that Tuch thinks is the greatest player ever (not) was in that one episode reading a book...

BarronVangorToth
11-10-2005, 10:36 PM
It's a collectible card game (like Magic: The Gathering, except wrestling vs. fantasy) - that's why I'm going out to California next week, for a convention featuring the game. And it's also why I spend far too much time on my computer working on said game at all hours of the night.

All of that takes a backseat to Bart saying:

"He's got out some raisin' chips."

Hey Bart and Dave,

Please get a ruling on that raise. I was playing about 2 weeks ago at the Bike and I was involved with a pot against Ed regarding this very situation. Three of us saw a flop and player A checked, I checked, and Ed bet 150. Player A went all in for a total of 180 and I called under the impression Ed could not reraise. Ed said he could, player A said he could, and the dealer said he could. Ed ended up reraising all in and pushed me out. What is the ruling on that?

11-10-2005, 10:56 PM
I mean to me that is like being dealt 83 and folding preflop and when the board comes 883 you say oh I could have won. I mean stuff like that happens. He made the correct laydown. Sometimes you have to laydown the winning hand.
Will be interesting to see if that has an effect on his play to where maybe he will call down more hands?

Do you mean:
1. there isnt a way to do this
2. there are no plans to do this
3. they don't want to do this

It would make it a lot easier to follow the action if they maybe highlighted the name of the game last to act. Plus indicating each person's action at each betting round would make things much easier to follow as well. That would the announcers can focus on commentary rather than the play by play.

queenwithatrey
11-10-2005, 11:07 PM
The software they use doesn't prohibit it. Also keeping track of pot sizes is too difficult a task to get shown on the screen quick enough to matter.

11-10-2005, 11:09 PM
Yeah you're right about the pot size thing, but indicating who is last to act along with each player's action at each betting round would be real helpful. So what you're saying is that the software they use won't allow this?

cwsiggy
11-10-2005, 11:15 PM
I don't think they would be able to enter the data fast enough. I could be wrong. They could have some kind of tablet system that might work.

11-10-2005, 11:20 PM

I'll repost the article someone was kind enough to link to last night on raising for information. For your reading pleasure Bart and Tuch.

http://www.twoplustwo.com/magazine/issue10/ives1005.html

11-10-2005, 11:24 PM
Well, at least highlighting the name of the player who is last to act?

queenwithatrey
11-10-2005, 11:26 PM
Still takes too long. They can't just click on the name and something happens. Its like a text box. They'd have to manually do something to notate the last to act EVERY SINGLE HAND. It's much easier to just say "Button is on Tony" or "Button is in seat 3".

7n7
11-10-2005, 11:28 PM
Bart,

The question kind of morphed into "is it ever correct to raise ONLY for information?" Ex: you've got TPWK or middle pair and want to see if anybody out there has you beat. However, in this situation, you also want people to fold, nullifying the "ONLY for information" part.

cwsiggy
11-10-2005, 11:29 PM
I imagine raising for information can get you in trouble by exposing you to a reraise bluff.

If you have say JJ and the flop is K 3 8 rainbow, do you raise here if last to act??

11-10-2005, 11:31 PM
We can't criticize you. We get banned if we do.

Yeah maybe you're right. You're point is that if you're wealthy enough to stake someone a few thousand, then what is it to you if that person makes a few thousand and splits it half with you? Like, relative to your wealth, whats another few thousand right? Yeah I get that point, but maybe it's to help the player you're staking to develop and get into even bigger games? Andrew Vs Carlos hand. Dave and Bart, Andrew did get himself in trouble, BUT Carlos could have easily got himself in trouble going all in on a 9 high flush vs. a higher flush. I've seen many low flushes cracked by nut flushes etc. Carlos should not be praised for that overbet on the river. He would have looked like a donkey if Andrew had a higher flush.

If you use something like WMRecorder, or something like that, I'm sure you can save the shows and burn them to DVD.

I hope that the Huge Play with Carlos, George, Mo, and Tony demonstrates that Carlos is a huge donkey. Excellent commentary DAVE AND BART!!!!!!!!! I love your enthusiasm.

I love how earlier they tried to make it seem like Carlos was a genius for pushing with 9/3 with his flush, when really he's just a donkey who got some other guy to make a bad call.

The last two nights have been filled with huge hands, I think we're talking at least 10 hands that have resulted in 20k pots, with quite a few in the 10k area.

I agree. Carlos would not fold that flush if you put a gun to his head. He is a donkey who got lucky tonight. He will be broke soon.

God I can't believe this show. I tune in like 3 times and this is the kind of action I see EVERY time. You guys are right. Best. Poker. Show. Period.

'Nuff said.

11-11-2005, 12:59 AM
Tell me about it. Got back within 6K of my 30K buy in and then lost it on another 2 hands with the best of it. Pocket Kings with a Q high flop, ace on the turn, 6 on the river. With all the betting and raising one would have thought I had at least a Q with a decent kicker. The clown was calling and raising with a friggin Q6!!

11-11-2005, 01:00 AM
The other hand was that I had KJ, flop was JJ7, turn a 7. Now I have the full house. Does it win? NOOOOOOOOOO! Another 7 on the river for Ed, the douchebad holding 74 to beat my full house with quads.

Was not my night. Really brought my winning streak to an abrupt skid. Hopefully, tomorrow I will play well and the suckouts will be less.

Incidentally, guys, quit ragging on Shirley. She is one of the brightest players out there with street cred, and wins to prove it. You may disaggree with her analysis, that does not make her stupid or a bad player. She sees thinks that you may not, and a deeper analysis is always welcomed. So, be civil, or I'll get off the table and come beat your silly a$$!

Good to be back everyone....thanks for watching and for your support. It's nice to be in a new area - hopefully more people will enjoy the show now. As far as I'm concerned, the more people watch, the more people post about it - the more we all learn.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to send me a private message.

Once again, thanks! See ya tomorrow night for our crazy friday night!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

If these facts are right then there is NO WAY Ed can raise. This wouldn't even be allowed in limit poker (where a raise of half or more re-opens the betting). Next time call the floor.

I'm watching the 7,2 vs. AA episode, and would just like to say CAN WE GET NEW COMMENTATORS!!!!!!!!!!! These ones SUCK AT POKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also the play is just horrible.

On one hand a guy raised with AKo to $220 another called with AJo, flopped ace, AK bets, AJ raises, AK calls, turn AK leads, AJ folds. Everyone thinks that it's a good lay down with AJ and he made a good play. If you think that way, YOU SUCK AT POKER!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOD, the correct play was to fold AJo to a 11 times bb raise pf. (and yes I know it was straddled)

I don't remember the preflop action but the hands were:

Gor: Q4s
Carlos: Bill Fillmaff
Tony: Q7s
George 55

Flop: Q-7-5r

Gor moved all-in for like $200. Carlos decides to call for no good reason. George raises another like $500. Tony calls. Gor starts to get up, puts his jacket on. Carlos RERAISES because he's got a backdoor straight draw. George moves all-in. Tony calls. Carlos calls.

Turn: 7
River: blank
