View Full Version : Favorite Transfomer

My friend just received (via Ebay from China, apparently legally licensed) 20th Anniversary Edition of the Transformers on DVD, the 1st 4 seasons before the movie. 99 Episodes of awesome-ness. All he does now is IM me or talk to me about it. I'm so jealous.

Got me thinking - who is your favorite Transformer? Maybe because I had such a fondness for the toy - but I'm going Skyfire.

As a group, the Dinobots were awesome. As were those triple-changer guys.

Note: Starscream, in the Chinese, is translated as "Red Spider". Cool.

Soundwave and it's not that close.

Bluestreak and Prowl were also favs.

Anybody who says Bumblebee probably voted a specific way in a specific poll.

edit- to fix his name...

Bumblebee is not only the worst Transfomer ever, but possibly one of the worst things ever.

Soundwave is awesome and the best standalone (close second is megatron). To actually play with though, its the constructicons, teaming together to form devastator. And this one is not even remotely close.

As a kid I once convinced this dude to sell me Grimlock for like 2 bucks. My mom decided that I'd scammed the kid and made me give it back. I'm pretty sure my career as derivatives trader was crushed that day, and that's while I'll never be rich like Paluka.

My friend and I had the complete G1 collection between us back in the day (not to mention GI Joe). Good times.

Megatron is sexay. Hot Shot is pretty cool, too. I watch it every day with the kids.

How can one tell that Optimus Prime is Jewish?

The tapes where what: Ravage was the bird right, what were the panther and the other one?

The other really horrible Transformer was the Autobot answer to Shockwave, "MasterBlaster" or something, who was this retarded jive talking knockoff supposed to be a ghetto blaster.

I owned Megatron and he was a pain to transform and to play with. The Constructicons were cool, but we were poor and I was only able to get two through my childhood. Always wondered what the completed guy looked like, thanks.

I think Ravage was the panther? Laserbeak was the bird (a condor). Soundwave's cassette minions totally rule.

Did the toy come with more than those 2 tapes?

Ravage was the panther. Laserbeak and Buzzsaw were the birds. There were also two mini-robot ones...Rumble and something else.

Blaster was actually a cool toy, and other than Jazz, the only other stereotypical black Autobot.

Jazz was a race car.

Soundwave:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y40/poskonig/Transformers/Soundwave.jpg

(Shockwave was the Megatron replacement "turns into a gun" guy who wasn't as cool as Megatron, I'm kinda embarassed I made that brain fart).

Apparently the Autobot's name was just "Blaster"

This is not entirely accurate. Galvatron was the "newer" Megatron replacement. Shockwave came out as a toy very early on. I had both toys, and IMO Shockwave > Megatron (Shockwave made battery powered "laser" noises and had an LED thing going on, while you couldn't even put caps into Megatron.

I think the Soundwave toy came bundled with at least 1 cassette tape, as I remember being pleasantly surprised by this...

Soundwave was my favorite because he was my first transformer. I'm pretty sure he came with Laserbeak at the least. But the others were sold separately.

Seriously? I hate the polls - here's a list of some big ones if this helps-

Starscream, Jetfire, Soundwave, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Megatron/Galvatron, Shockwave, Grimlock/Dinobots, Shrapnel/Inseticons, Constructicons

Edit - yeah I agree with Dids. IHY Polls.

samjjones

Agree. No need for a poll...because everybody agrees that Soundwave was awesome. It really was a great toy design, and the character in the cartoon was equally cool.

Let's just be honest guys, THEY ARE ALL GOOD!!!! It's like trying to pick a favorite G.I. Joe, just not possible.

So much better than the crap kids seem to have available to them these days.

Oh, and if you really want to feel depressed, just look at what this stuff goes for on eBay, original unopened material....

My votes:
Megatron (he looks like a real pistol)
Soundwave (easy)

but by far the winner is the Aerielbots

Per request, I submit my costume for Halloween 2005, taken along with Barry Greenstein at the Bellagio. I apologize for posting such a blurry pick, but I don't deal with pictures very often and I don't know how to doctor photos...apparently the photographer was drunk and using a not-so-great device to take the pic. Either way, I think you can figure out my favorite transformer, even if you can't figure out what I really look like.

And, yes, I did have appropriate leggings on my calves and going over my feet, to complete the Optimus Prime look.
