$10 NLHE tournament on Pokerstars

I am the BB with 2,800 in chips (about 1/2 the average) - blinds are 100/200 with rolling ante of 25.

UTG + 1 (with 4,100 chips) raises 1 BB to 400.

Everyone folds - I have pocket AJ suited.

I go all in.

UTG + 1 calls and turns over AQo.

Did I make the right play?

Seems that if I called or raised modestly there was no way I could have avoided losing a lot of chips to him anyway.

Game over for me.

Although AJs looks marvelous it is a dangerous NL hand. In late position I would raise with it, but I would rarely re-raise with it.

I would have just called in your case.

I was trying to win the pot right there and figured only AA, KK or QQ and (maybe) AK would call.

Even then I thought it less likely to run into AA or AK because I already had one of the Aces.

Even against KK and QQ I wouldn't be such a major dog (I'd still have about a 30-35% chance).

Wasn't that AQo call questionable on his part?

With a short stack I feel pressured to make a move - otherwise my stack gets blinded to an insignificant level.

"I was trying to win the pot right there and figured only AA, KK or QQ and (maybe) AK would call."

Not all opponents play like you do.

"With a short stack I feel pressured to make a move "

But you are not short stacked. You have 2800 and blinds are 100-200. If you only had 1000-1200 then the play is better.

"Wasn't that AQo call questionable on his part?"

I don't make it unless I know something about the opponent.
