I'm planning on going to Vegas for New Years. How much will entertainment cost? I've got the hotel covered, I'm just wondering if it's going to be $100 cover for the bars, and $15 dollar beers. Can I get the "free alcohol if you gamble" deal on New Years Eve?

I want to party my butt off, so staying in a casino lobby is out of the question. Just looking for a couple ranges, and the insight of others who have actually been to Las Vegas.

The clubs at the offstrip casinos like the Rio were $80 cover on NYE so I assume clubs on the strip will be even more.

It's sort of like buying a boat - if you have to ask, you can't afford it.

That's what I was worried about...I can't afford a $500 night or something

Yeah, I was going to say I would expect to spend at least $1k, and I'm kind of a cheap bastard.

I was in Vegas for last New Year's. Hotel rooms were up to $800~ for the Venetian. I think Bellagio was around $500 but I really do not remember. Most decent places were $300 and up. The bars/clubs have some type of special. A few places had an open top shelf bar for a few hundred. Everything is more obviously. Vegas.com is a good place to see all the nightlife events for the night but I would try to find a better deal elsewhere. There were 3 huge firework displays at midnight that made it as bright as day. It is pretty much chaos and good luck getting a free drink at midnight. There are tons of outdoor bars set up to meet the demand of drinks. You do not have to spend a ton if you get a no frills room and stay on the street for the night.
