I've been told different things from different people, so I don't know which is right.

I avoid navy blue suits for this exact reason.

The belt always matches the shoes. Always as far as I'm concerned. With Navy blue suit you can wear black, brown or cordovan. Cordovan during the day and black at night with a navy blue suit.

Until recently I think black was pretty standard with Navy. Now it seems that more and more people are wearing brown. Just make sure the belt matches the shoes and tie of possible and you will be ok either way.

If you want to look like you know what you're talking about, ask for oxblood shoes.

I've got some Johnston and Murphy's. Highly recommended.

I prefer black belt/black shoes because you can wear black/black with black suits, gray suits, and navy suits. I travel a lot and usually only want to take one pair of shoes and one belt. (Although I do have cordavan shoes and belt for when I am not traveling). Brown shoes are terrible unless it is a brown suit and brown suits suck!
Brown shoes are ok with blue blazer and khaki pants however.

Brown or Cordovan. The lighter suits w/ lighter brown shoes, dark suits w/ dark brown.

Black shoes should be an occasion w/ navy blue suits not the norm.

Back in the day, brown shoes with a blue suit was such a no-no it was a joke. I would go with black.

On the other hand, I wouldn't chug hot sauce or eat a stick of butter either. Who knows what goes these days.

This rule was always wrong and is still wrong.

Dark brown suede dress shoes with a dark suit are quite sophisticated.

This depends on the type of suit. For a nicer suit, I would only go with black. For a not so nice suit, dark brown is fine, although you can't go wrong by always going with black.

The answer is cordovan. For both.

A saturated hue of Orange. You want complimentary colors bro.

Add a cane and hat and you're a pimp.
