I agree. I don't think it was my choice before I watched Apocalypse Now though. Best soundtrack choice ever.

Light my Fire is the Doors' version of Hotel California. It's their signature song, but overrated and overplayed.

My personal favorite is "Soul Kitchen." The End is a great choice.
What about LA Woman? Had the (sort of) improv part, the break, it was long, it rocked, it reflected the city, nightlife, loneliness, all the great Doors themes.
I hate Riders on the Storm. The lyrics are insipid and the music sounds like something I heard in an elevator or department store. I always find it disappointing that it still gets played over better Doors tunes.

House of the Rising Sun is an old folk tune written by a woman, later recorded by Bob Dylan and made absolutely famous by Eric Burdon and the Animals. I don't think the Doors ever recorded it.
*edit - although, to bring it full circle, I will say that Burdon sings Roadhouse Blues at all his concerts now as a staple.

Actually my fav is Roadhouse Blues
"keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel"
"well I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer"
This thread got me to remembering my Doors 8-track and the way The End was broken up onto seperate tracks and some song or songs (Soul Kitchen/Crystal Ship?) were played twice. Now that was hi-tech.
