While what you have in the link may be very nice, don't expect to see a lot of poker. That's because the other games, particularly machines, are viewed as more profitable by casino executives. There are also other reasons as well.

Man, what a wet blanket!

Won't the casino industry take their ideas from Vegas? I would expect that there will be a marked increase in the number of poker games in the UK. Most casino's will probably have a poker room, don't you think?

in the chicagoland area, in like a 4 or 5 hour radius, we have 2 poker rooms. 1 in aurora, il, at the hollywood which has like 5-7 tables going maximum ever. plus they don't open on the weekends at all now. friday night through sunday, they are closed. in indiana, at harrah's east chicago, the room has 15 tables (usually all running, depending on the time and day) decent limits, but a weird boarding time schedule. of the numerous other casinos in the area, none have a poker room that i have heard of, (i would have heard by now). poker isn't AS lucrative for the house as other games. too bad.

In the greater Seattle area we have a few indian casino's within an hour's drive, but there are many more cardrooms even closer. Most spread small limit (3-6, 4-8), but some get up in the 10-20 range. I'm not sure what the state maximum on limits is, but there are lots of rooms to choose from here. Maybe we're just lucky.

We have 2 cardrooms... (count 'em) for about 8 million people.

And one of those is shut at weekends.

It's a total of 13 tables for the whole city.

(For festivals the Victoria shuts one its bars and provides an extra 12 or so tables)

This is good news insofar as the size of casinos will be greatly increased... I am pretty sure UK gamblers don't have the demand for slots as in the States. So, hopefully there will be room for more poker!

Cheers,

Keith

At least one of the changes probably WILL make a big difference to poker, and that is the one which will allow advertising. At the moment in the UK, new people come into poker pretty much either by word of mouth, or because they are already in a casino to play house games and wander into the cardroom. I am sure there are lots of people who would be curious to try poker if only they knew it existed.

Oh no!! Not again!
